Job overview

We are excited to announce that the Witney AMHT are looking for an experienced Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist who is ready to take a leading role in transforming the lives of people with mental health conditions....

This role has been created to enable the right candidate to advance their career in a more clinically focused way but to still include operational management opportunities.  

the Witney AMHT are a friendly and dynamic integrated mental health team supporting adults with a wide range of mental health conditions.

You will be working with people from urban and rural settings based within the beautiful Cotswolds. We are looking for experienced clinicians who can make a positive difference to this client group.

You will clinically lead a small team consisting of newly qualified Nurses/Occupational Therapists, Nurse Associates, Peer Support Workers and Support Workers to provide care and interventions to a complex caseload of patients. This will be as part of a wider team working alongside our primary care networks, supported by both psychiatric and psychological therapy clinicians.  

 

Main duties of the job

You will act as an advanced autonomous practitioner, demonstrating a high level of practice/knowledge whilst participating in direct evidenced based patient care working as part of a multi- disciplinary team providing professional and clinical support to patients.

You will undertake autonomous health assessments; diagnosing, treating and discharging patients within own competence. As the Senior Keyworker, you will provide expert care and treatment to patients within agreed protocols and clinical guidelines.

You will provide support within the team and act as a role model and resource, encouraging and developing a high standard of clinical skill and improving patient outcomes.

You will function in a variety of role dimensions: health care provider, educator, researcher, clinical advocate and implementer of clinical governance. 

You will be a senior clinician within the team. The role will predominantly be clinical, but also include some operational leadership and supervision to your small team of junior staff.

Witney AMHT is a wonderful team to work in and this role offers an opportunity to develop senior clinical and leadership skills. We also have twice weekly MDT meetings, where our energetic and supportive colleagues meet to understand the issues and tackle the challenges faced by people living with severe and enduring mental illness.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We use the principles of a flexible assertive community treatment (FACT) model of healthcare. We have incorporated FACT into the daily functioning of the team which enables us to be focused on the recovery of the patient through a multidisciplinary (MDT) approach. This enables us to share and develop our expertise with doctors, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, support workers and psychological therapies staff. 

We are committed to a person-centred recovery approach in all our clinical work and pride ourselves in offering a high-quality service reflected in our CQC rating of Good.

The service is open Monday to Friday 9:00 to 17:00 not including bank holidays.

The Witney AMHT is based in the centre of Witney, within the Cotswolds, surrounded by beautiful countryside with easy access the amenities of a modern market town.

Witney AMHT provide care for the residents of the marker towns of  Witney and Chipping Norton as well as surrounding villages such as Eynsham, Bampton and Charlbury.  We work with people from diverse backgrounds including farming communities, tech industries, students and the military. 

The Witney team is part of the North & West Oxon AMHT patch which also includes Banbury, Brackley and surrounding villages. We cover a large geographical area, and therefore a candidate with access to a vehicle to use for work purposes would be well suited to the role.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A specialist knowledge and clinical expertise in community mental health in line with professional requirements
  • To have awareness of National and local issues concerning healthcare
  • To have a developed understanding of Clinical Governance
  • To understand the legal frameworks used within practice
  • To maintain professional accountability and professional registration.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience of mental health care and working across different settings which must include experience within a community mental health setting.
  • Providing clinical and or managerial supervision

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of clinical risk assessment and management
  • Advanced knowledge of the range of presentations, diagnoses and current management options
  • Committed to growth and development of colleagues and environment
  • To demonstrate good English verbal and written communication skills
  • To show evidence of advanced problem solving skills
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in management and leadership within a healthcare setting
  • Coaching skills
  • Committed to constant review and change

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Professional Qualification (RMN, or Occupational Therapist with Dip RCOT qualification or degree
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio
  • Hold a Psycho-social Intervention qualification or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • To hold an advanced professional/clinical qualification (e.g. CBT, DBT, NMP)
  • For OT Member of the British Association/Royal College of Occupational Therapists
