Part-Time Post - 0.8 WTE - 30 hours per week Sobell House is an 18 bed NHS hospice within Oxford University Hospitals Trust specially designed to provide Palliative and End of Life Care and support for patients and their families with advanced incurable disease. We provide specialist care aiming to focus on quality of life and respecting the uniqueness of each person. We have an exciting opportunity for innovative individuals to join our team at Sobell House as a Deputy Sister/ Charge Nurse. As part of the senior nursing team you will assist the Ward Manager in providing excellent clinical and managerial leadership and will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the Ward Manager role. You will be supported to develop the necessary skills and expertise to carry out appraisals, staff development and as a line manager you will take responsibility of a team comprising of staff at a variety of band levels.

Clinical expertise and experience in Palliative and End of Life Care are desirable for this post as working clinically you will not only provide excellent care for our patients and their families but will be expected to support more junior team members. When leading the team you should be able to work well under pressure and adopt a flexible approach to work. OVERALL OBJECTIVES
- To assist the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in providing clinical and managerial leadership to all staff
- To line manage/appraise and develop a small team of nurses within the ward establishment
- To lead in a specific area of ward practice/project work on the ward as agreed, making recommendations, coordinating projects and developing practice guidelines and policies based upon robust evidence, gained from risk assessment, audit and literature review.
- To be professionally and clinically responsible to patients within the ward, providing and maintaining a high standard of care and maintaining a communication link between patient and organisation
- To maintain and continually develop specialist knowledge and skills relevant to the clinical area and to provide an out of hours Triage Service and act as a specialist resource to the Trust
- Regularly act as shift coordinator, participating in the allocation of workload, ensuring efficient bed management, effective patient care and safety on the ward
- Contribute to the development of clinical practice, with regards to Departmental, Trust and National recommendations, communicating this to junior colleagues in a positive manner in order to maintain a consistent, motivated ward focus.

- In possession of or working towards degree level education or demonstrate experience of working at this level.
