Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In conjunction with ACPEs, CPEs, their PDEL, Managers, Matrons and the Divisional Lead for Practice Development and Education Lead, promote an environment that encourages learning and sustains the personal and professional development of all non-medical staff.
Ensure utilisation of the Oxford Model for exemplary professional nursing and midwifery practice and the NHS Change Model in promoting practice development and education for all non-medical staff as the means by which quality improvement is systematic, goal‑focused, measured in its implementation and relevant to the area of clinical practice.
Identify training and education needs and plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for students, new starters and existing members of the non-medical staff.
Facilitate the on-going development and implementation of education initiatives in particular the orientation, preceptorship and mentorship programmes for students and new members of staff.
Provide bedside and classroom teaching, supervision and support for all non‑medical staff in facilitating work-based learning and development of knowledge, clinical skills and expertise.
With the Divisional Lead for Practice Development and Education, plan and allocate student placements and monitor their progress.
With the Link Lecturer and Learning Environment Lead, complete an audit of the learning environments, disseminate and act on results to improve students and mentors experience.
Attend Divisional and Trust-wide Clinical Practice Development and Education meetings and report back to other ACPE, CPE, PDEL, Ward Mangers, Matrons and Divisional Lead for Practice Development and Education as appropriate.
Complete mandatory training as required by the Trust and act as a resource and role model for other staff with regard to their mandatory training needs.
Be committed to an ethos of lifelong learning for self and others.
In collaboration with an individual’s mentor, give staff constructive feedback focusing on their progress and development.
Act as an expert resource and a role model for staff requiring practice development, education and clinical skills.

Qualified Mentor (or its equivalent)

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Purpose of the job/about the role

Dementia UK has entered into an exciting three-year corporate partnership with a national partner. As a key component of this initiative, we will establish face-to-face Admiral Nurse clinics across the UK. This new team will bring Admiral Nursing to high street locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

As part of the national Clinics Programme Team, you will provide in-person biopsychosocial support and advice, sharing your specialist dementia nursing expertise to help families manage the complexities of the condition. Your focus will be on supporting family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist dementia guidance in areas of the UK where Admiral Nurse services are currently unavailable, bringing a much-needed service directly to local communities. Throughout your work, you will consistently promote Admiral Nursing and a family-centred approach to dementia care.

You will receive full support with your continuous professional development from the Admiral Nurse Academy.

As this unique nursing role offers you the opportunity to travel across the country, and will include overnight stays, flexibility is essential. When not delivering face-to-face clinics, you will provide support on our Helpline, working from home.

Admiral Nurse – Delivered Services

Join our Delivered Services team as an Admiral Nurse and bring your specialist dementia nursing expertise to support family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist advice. You’ll be a key member of our team, providing biopsychosocial support through our National Dementia Helpline and Virtual Clinic appointments.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and support other clinical projects across the charity, benefit from monthly clinical supervision, and participate in a range of learning opportunities to support your ongoing professional development.

As an Admiral Nurse, you’ll be responsible for providing nursing support and expertise, offering practical guidance to colleagues, the general public, those with dementia, and others in supporting family and relationship-centered approaches to dementia care. You’ll also lead and coordinate shifts as required, providing clinical supervision to others and assist with the development, evaluation, audit of the service, carer and supporters in different settings.

To be successful in this position, you’ll need to be an active Registered Nurse on the NMC register with a post-registration qualification or training in dementia care or a relevant subject. You will have significant experience of practicing as an Admiral Nurse or dementia specialist nurse and previously worked with people who have dementia and their family, carer and supporters in different settings.

Strong communication skills are essential, as is a proven track record of providing high standards of clinical leadership and specialist nursing support. You should be adept at providing clinical advice, clinical supervision, and advocating for family carers.
