Main duties of the job

Our Minor Injury Units treat approximately 4000 patients across the Service per month, making a real difference, providing care closer to home and avoiding admission to hospital wherever possible and appropriate.

Our GP Out of Hours services supports the management of acute primary care illness when the GP surgeries are closed. The role includes telephone triage,  base visit and home visiting. 

As a Specialist Emergency Practitioner, you will be a Registered Nurse or Paramedic with the skills to autonomously assess and treat patients in the Urgent Care bases. You will have excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills along with a passion to provide patient centred care.

You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team who pride themselves on their excellent team working and support of each other whilst treating a diverse range of conditions which will give you the opportunity to extend your advanced skills in injury and illness

We will encourage you to further develop your skills through a supportive programme of training and education including Non-Medical prescribing and L7 leadership with a tailored development plan and competence portfolio of practice. 

You will be working across a shift system which includes weekends and bank holidays. We are happy to consider full or part time hours both on a permanent basis.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience at Band 6 equivalent in autonomous assessment of minor illness and injury presentations
  • Experience of mentoring students
  • Competent in using Evidence Based Practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in MDT

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse or Allied Healthcare Professional
  • Post Registration Qualification in both Minor Illness and Injury (Level 6/7)
  • Mentorship qualification or equivalent
