Institute Senior Nurse for Practice Education

Band 8a

Job overview

This is a key leadership role within the Institute of Care Excellence for practice learning, professional development, education and workforce transformation.  The post holder will work closely with Assistant Directors of Nursing and Institute Clinical Lead (Education) to lead on Practice Education for undergraduate and postgraduate education development, implementation and evaluation of education programmes, continuing professional development strategies and policies for N&M. They will deputise for the Institute Clinical Lead for professional development and education in  leading, developing and implementing strategic approaches to practice learning, placement capacity, preceptorship programme development, delivery and governance processes. The post holder requires experience in managing nursing apprenticeship programmes and practice placements. They will promote sharing of best practice and an organisational culture of learning and excellence.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the ADN and Institute Clinical Lead to ensure alignment of Corporate and Divisional education and training activity for the non-medical clinical workforce. With support from the senior team the post holder will utilise evidence based practice and research to inform practice learning and professional development programmes, focus investment and evaluation of education, practice development and learning. The post holder will work with the ADN and Clinical Lead to ensure compliance with educational quality assurance processes and professional clinical standards as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, NHSE and other national policy, regulatory bodies and providers of education as required. They will be accountable for the efficient and effective use and management of education resources and education programmes.  As a senior lead within the Institute, they will support the development of the Institute and the implementation of the Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Plan.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered nurse or midwife
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or closely Health related degree
  • Evidence of undertaking or completed Master’s degree programme (Nursing or closely Health related)
  • Additional related clinical specialist qualification
  • Post registration teaching and assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Additional related qualifications, Masters degree in relevant field or evidence of equivalent PhD, or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience at a senior leadership level including clinical practice experience in acute care and managing teams .
  • Current experience at a senior level including education project management, change management, and multidisciplinary working
  • Experience in managing nursing apprenticeship programmes and practice placements
  • Experience of leading training needs analysis in a complex organisation
  • Experience of Strategically Managing planning and delivering clinical education with particular emphasis to the professional regulatory environment
  • Evidence in managing post graduate experience including preceptorship programme
  • Evidence of leading projects across health and social care settings/clinical practice, teaching and research
  • Extensive experience of teaching, developing and facilitating complex training and education programmes
  • Experience and understanding of key organisational, nursing and midwifery objectives and how research and education links to the Nursing and Midwifery strategic Plan
  • Experience in undertaking advanced nursing skills
  • Experience of leading and managing large education projects cross organisational/ ICS level

  • Well developed IT skills to manage and report on complex performance management information systems
  • Able to move and handle teaching and training equipment
  • Able to undertake clinical duties as required by a registered nurse within NUH
