Senior Interprofessional Educator (DREEAM)

The post holder will act as a senior nurse and Inter-professional Educator within DREEAM. They will be responsible for the planning, co-ordination, delivery, and evaluation of education to healthcare staff working within the trust and the local healthcare community, with the aim of ensuring high quality patient care delivery. The educator will be expected to maintain their clinical skills and deliver patient care to an exceptional standard. Education will include inductions, mandatory training, clinical skills, human factors, equipment training and supported working in the clinical area and will be delivered using a wide range of different teaching methods e.g.  didactic teaching, skills stations, small group discussions, simulation, shop floor teaching etc.


As a senior member of the team, they will be responsible for maintaining professional standards within DREEAM and promote a safe and effective environment conducive for learning.


As part of DREEAM they will also work closely with the research team to ensure an evidence-based approach to education delivery and to support the research team with current projects and trials. 


The post holder will be expected to travel between Trust Campuses and work the occasional weekend and evening depending on training needs.

Plan, deliver and evaluate inter-professional training and education to staff within the Emergency Department, Medicine Division, wider trust and to external Healthcare Providers and Community Groups.

Be a visible presence in clinical areas demonstrating exemplary standards of clinical care and education, promoting the implementation of evidence-based practice and inter-professional learning.

Support managers, preceptors, and newly qualified staff in the process of transition from learner to qualified member of staff.

Provide effective written and verbal feedback on performance, handling sensitive and confidential information as per information governance guidelines.

Ensure capability issues are identified and to provide support to relevant clinical managers and individuals through this process. Assisting in the development of action plans, providing support for the individual performance review process; providing documentary evidence to support the process.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of all learning interventions.

Be actively involved in ensuring that the environment is conducive to the learning and development of staff.

Participate in the Trust Education Forum, to share excellence in education and be aware of other educational activities within the trust.

Develop and lead on areas of education planning and programme development e.g. Induction Programme, Simulated Patients etc.

Ensure curriculum alignment and evaluation of all education programmes delivered by DREEAM.

Support the nurse education lead to maintain accurate records of all training and education and ensure that ED are meeting the mandatory training targets set by the Trust and where required assist in the creation of action plans to improve performance. 

Take the lead for a specific area of Education within DREEAM e.g. Mandatory Training, Medical Devices, Community Education, Student Learners, External Placements etc.

Support the Senior IPE in managing the Inter-professional education portfolio, resources, and team.  

To co-ordinate the education team in the absence of the Senior IPE.

Oversee the performance monitoring of staff personal development plans and escalate to the Senior IPE and/or Clinical Manager as necessary. 

Able to sensitively manage situations where students/staff are not meeting expected standards of practice. 

Ability to always maintain confidentiality and discretion.

Represent DREEAM at meetings, as required, in the absence of the Senior IPE.

Acquire and maintain an appropriate repertoire of management skills, including leadership skills, and enable the empowerment of other members of the departmental team.

Participate in the recruitment and selection process for staff in collaboration with the Education Lead as appropriate.

Encourage department staff to be involved in the management of resources, by the effective use of both clinical and non-clinical supplies and understanding of financial issues.

Be aware of DREEAM and the Directorates Business Plans.  

Participate in peer review and evaluation.

Undertake clinical shifts on a pro-rata basis to maintain own clinical competence and understanding of the clinical environment.

To act as a clinically excellent role model whilst working clinically.

Maintain and develop one’s own professional knowledge and expertise to meet CPD and role requirements.

Work closely with the DREEAM Research Team and be involved in current research studies within the department, including GCP training. Actively promote these with staff in the clinical area.

To support the ED team in ensuring clinical audit takes place in line with the expected standard to improve quality of care delivery. 

Identify personal objectives, reflect on progress and formally revise a personal development plan annually, in order to enhance their contribution to the department using the Performance Development Review (PDR) process.

Following individual performance management, liaise with the clinical lead nurse in agreeing how identified training and development needs are to be met.

Take every opportunity to expand your practice and knowledge in line with the principles contained with the NMC document “The Scope of Professional Practice” (2002).

Represent the DREEAM team across and beyond NUH by displaying exemplary standards of behaviour and professionalism.

Ensure that the elements contained within the NMC’s document “The Code of Professional Practice” (2002) are adhered to by yourself and others, in particular those relating to professional accountability.

Contribute to meeting the Directorate and Trust strategic objectives.

Training & Qualifications

  • First level Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (RN/RSCN/Child Branch).
  • Previous experience of taking charge of a clinical area.
  • High level of clinical knowledge and skill.
  • Practice Assessor course/module.
  • Knowledge of Trust training policies.

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Have completed all aspects of essential professional practice
  • Current ALS/ATLS/ATNC/APLS provider/instructor status.
  • Practice Teacher / PG Cert Education.
  • Teaching & assessing qualification.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years post registration experience.
  • A minimum of 6 months working in an Emergency Department/Acute Care Environment.
  • Experience of supervising, teaching & assessing learners.
  • Knowledge of different learning styles and different modes of education delivery.
