A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced children's nurse to join the East Midlands, Children's Complications of Excess Weight Service on a fixed term contract to March 2025.
The successful candidate will join a team of specialist nurses, clinical support workers, dietitians, social workers and psychologists, caring for children and young people with complications from excess weight.
You will be hospital based with a responsibility to see children in the outpatient setting, as well as liaise with families at home and provide education and health promotion, across the Nottinghamshire.

The successful candidate will work as a member of a team providing a high quality service to children and young people with severe obesity and related complications. You will keep in close contact with patients, their families and others involved in day-to-day support. You will offer support and advice (under supervision) to optimise the management of patients’ weights and related complications and their physical, psychological, intellectual, educational and social development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Be responsible for the management of a caseload of patients with severe childhood obesity and the associated complications related to this.
Work collaboratively and significantly within the children’s multidisciplinary CREW Clinic East Midlands, covering both Leicester and Nottingham, dividing their time equally between both centers.
The post holder will be working flexibly 3 days a week dependent on clinical need. Assess the care needs of children, young people, and their families with obesity and associated conditions. Advise accordingly and; implement programmes of care which are designed, evaluated and amended as appropriate.
Support and guide the inpatient team when patients with severe obesity are admitted at NUH.
Educate ward based staff on the specialist aspects of clinical care related to this patient group and, guide them in educating the children and their families.
Be knowledgeable on key aspects of care for children and young people with obesity.
Provide guidance and support to families at home on receiving the specialist care associated with long term obesity management, for example; blood glucose monitoring, medication compliance and facilitation of a clinical review.
Take part in audit and innovative clinical research.
Undertake telephone consultations and attend/lead clinic sessions to maintain continuity of treatment and offer support and guidance to families.
Undertake dynamic function testing according to evidence based guidelines and co-ordinate resulting treatment plans.
Provide information and training to schools with children and young people who have obesity and related conditions.

- Up to date clinical knowledge of general paediatrics

Experience
Essential criteria
- Registered Childrens Nurse
- Experience in supervision of registered, non-registered staff and students

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
