The East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS) provides Emergency, Urgent and Non-Emergency pre-hospital care and transport across six counties (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire & Rutland and Northamptonshire).

Are you looking for a new and challenging role?  Do you have extensive experience of working in Mental Health?

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a registered Mental Health Practitioner to join the EMAS strategic mental health team to further develop and drive forward the ambulance response to mental health workstreams.

The postholder will work across the EMAS geographical footprint (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire) to develop mental health pathways, provide mental health related advice/guidance to service lines and support the strategic mental health team to deliver and implement the aspirations so the NHS Long Term Plan (2019) with regard to the ambulance response to mental health.

-      -  Maintain specialist knowledge of mental health and associated legislation e.g. Mental Health Act (1983) and its application within prehospital urgent and emergency care. 

--       - Ability to consider, synthesise and analyse complex mental health situations that arise in the prehospital environment and provide where required advice and guidance to a broad range of clinicians. 

-       - Work with the mental health team to support the implementation of the ambulance response to mental health as outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan (2019) and drive forward the ongoing related workstreams. 

-  - Evidence of developed clinical skills in relation to mental health and a track record of continuing professional development. 

-       - Attend relevant internal and external meetings to represent the strategic mental health team and provide updates on ongoing workstreams, ensuring all work is underpinned by appropriate governance structures and reporting processes. 

--        - Devise and conduct assessment of learning against prescribed outcomes and criteria including the Mental Health Core Skills Education and Training Framework and Dementia Core Skills Education and Training Framework. 

-      -  Work with the workforce education teams to support their knowledge development regarding mental health so they can confidently deliver these aspects during induction and mandatory training.

Qulaifications and Professional Development

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or Registered Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist with mental health experience and expertise.
  • Educated to postgraduate level or equivalent knowledge through experience and portfolio.
  • Portfolio of CPD evidence showing commitment to personal development.

  • Teaching Qualification / Assessing Qualification
  • Knowledge of Ambulance Service
  • Robust evidence of experience and understanding of the wider health care system management

Experience

  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems, people who self-harm and people who experience suicidal thoughts or ideas.
  • Experience in providing advice/ guidance regarding people in mental health crisis. / application of relevant legal frameworks/complex situations
  • Experiencing in escalating incidents/ areas of clinical risk/concern.
  • Experienced in planning and designing teaching/education/training materials.
  • Experience of setting up and managing projects.
  • Experience of working inter-professionally and across professional boundaries.
  • Experience of writing reports.
  • Experience of designing and implement changes to improve systems and processes.
  • Ability to interpret data effectively in order to make meaningful judgments.
  • Experienced in managing own time, working under pressure and working autonomously.
