Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at HMP Peterborough in the Integrated Substance Misuse Team.   We are looking for an individual who possess a caring, positive attitude and is dedicated and conscientious. Good communication abilities, compassion and organisational skills are paramount. The candidates will have the ability to lead by example and work well in a team. A strong interest in working with prisoners is essential.

HMP Peterborough is a local Category B prison. It is England’s only dual purpose-built prison for men and women, including a mother and baby unit, who are kept separate at all times. The prison is located in the city of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and accommodates up to 360 female and 868 adult male prisoners.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have substance misuse prescribing experience and a minimum of RCGP 1 in substance misuse 

The post holder will have a specialist interest in substance misuse and complete clinical observations and assessments on substance misuse patients.

The post holder will ensure the provision of research based high quality care to patients in HMP Peterborough in accordance with local and national policies.

The post holder will undertake various duties within HMP Peterborough, including acting as a responder to emergencies, screening patients in reception and on the wings, triaging patients and holding nurse led clinics.

The post holder will demonstrate leadership qualities and always set an example to junior staff through their own behaviour and attitude.

The post holder will participate in audits, research and project work as requested.

The post holder will be responsible for supervising and supporting junior staff / students and support their development and education.

The post holder will develop and support the concept of change, contributing ideas whilst demonstrating an awareness of prison issues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
