Job overview

Bay Ward ( Female) Harbour Ward (Mixed gender) are looking for individuals who can demonstrate leadership skills and have a genuine desire to work in co-production with our service users and carers.  The roles will have a strong emphasis in continually improving the service.  Supporting staff will be a key feature of the role.   You must be able to have the drive, commitment and ability to deputise for the Ward Matron in their absence and take part in the hospital Clinical Team Leader duty rota.
You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, be highly motivated with a positive 'can do’ approach, as well as being able to motivate and develop others. Other skills required for the role are to be reliable and have resilience to working in a busy and at times stressful highly emotive environment.  You must have excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
 We welcome applications from experienced Band 5 Staff Nurses who want to gain experience and further their management and leadership skills.
All the posts are rotational posts with the expectation of day and night working over the 7-day week.  All candidates must be physically fit and be able to engage in PMVA (Teamwork) training having the ability to employ such interventions when necessary. This post is for 12 months secondment. All candidates must be able to commit to a rotational  day / night shift pattern. 

Main duties of the job

  • Have designated responsibility for the management of inpatient area resources including staffing.
  • Act as a resource and provide advice on nursing care in relation to clinical interventions, policies, service development and delivery.
  • Demonstrate competency in applying relevant areas of nursing expertise within a multi professional arena.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide highly complex or sensitive information, where developed persuasive, motivational, negotiating, empathetic and/or reassuring skills are required
  • Be acknowledged as an expert clinical leader, act as a role model and provide clinical supervision within the allocated wards
  • Provide direct high quality nursing care, using a range of evidence-based interventions in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care to service users and families.
  • Be a role model in working in co-production with patients and their loved ones particularly through the care planning and risk assessment process.
  • Practice within the legal and ethical framework set out by the NMC code of professional conduct and other relevant legislation such as the Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act and Safeguarding procedures.
  • To uphold high professional standards at all times.
  • Make complex clinical judgements in relation to patient care, risk identification and management.
  • Participation in the formulation and execution of Trust policies as require
