Job overview
The post holder will report to the Lead Digital Midwife and be a core member of the Maternity Digital Team working collaboratively and independently. The digital midwife will support the lead on all activities regarding the electronic patient record systems within maternity, to include initial and on-going system development, implementation and training and for ensuring the accuracy of data within the service. They will work with the Lead Digital Midwife and with the multi professional team to improve the accuracy and completeness of data quality and work to ensure that national data quality standards are met.
Your role will include supporting the process of monthly reports of KPI, the maternity dashboard and cross checking of data to ensure accuracy. You will work with members of the multidisciplinary team within the hospital and community venues, including midwifery staff, medical personnel, coding, contracts, informatics and digital. You will deliver information based on current evidence-based research.
You will need to maintain a clinical element to your role along with participating in the escalation rota.
Main duties of the job
· Be Responsible for all aspects of the ongoing management and development of the maternity information system.
· Be responsible for monitoring the quality of use of the maternity system for all clinical [obstetric and midwifery], agency and admin staff.
· Provide support for staff with the day to day use of the maternity information system.
· Lead in implementing new solutions as the needs of Maternity Service change and the capabilities of the IT systems evolve.
· Work in collaboration with the IT Supplier and technical staff at the Trust and the IT providers to implement new interfaces to other Trust and Maternity Systems as the needs of the Maternity services change and the capabilities of the system evolve.
· Work in collaboration with the Trust’s information Department towards the effective provision of the information for all clinical, business and research related purposes including definitions of the base data required and methods for its collection and processing.
· In collaboration with others, review current and future clinical information requirements in maternity services, reviewing systems currently in place and drawing up plans for meeting those requirements.

· Help generate reports as required from the Maternity Information system and liaise closely with senior managers to meet requirements of national surveys and audits where appropriate, and support other local initiatives as required.
· Undertake and assist in the writing robust reports for various committees and meetings.
· Work with speciality leads in making recommendations for change in practice as a result of audits, incidents, trend analysis, root cause analysis and risk assessment to develop and promote midwifery practice.
· Be an active member of the guidelines group.
· Support in the process for submitting monthly dashboard and quarterly KPI information.
· Liaise with the coding team to ensure correct coding and payment pathways.
· Work with the Information Department in submitting the monthly MSDS report.
· Liaise with the Hearing Screening team, Child Health Hub and Birth Registration to ensure correct information transfer of birth notifications and receipt of NHS numbers.
· Support the Antenatal and Newborn screening team with data collection and submission for national and regional data submissions
· To support staff in undertaking audits and research with data requirements.
· To work closely with the governance midwife in order to develop and advance practice.

Education, Qualifications & Experience
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- Excellent IT knowledge – Microsoft office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint software
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Two years post registration experience
- Experience in all areas of midwifery practice
- Experience of working with healthcare clinical IT systems
