Job overview

Fixed-Term: 12 months

Working as part of the Hepatology team at Kettering General Hospital NHS (National Health Service) Foundation Trust, the post holder will ensure that patients with chronic liver conditions have appropriate support and care during the patient pathway. Work as member of the MDT (multidisciplinary team) providing specialized nursing care to patients within the liver specialty.

In collaboration with the hepatology consultants, work with the existing Hepatology Nurse Specialist to help develop an established role encompassing nurse led clinics with a variety of 
liver conditions treating hard to reach patients with hepatitis B/C MAFLD and other liver diseases.

In addition, the post holder will hold regular clinics and telephone consultations for patients with stable cirrhotic, chronic Hepatitis B, Primary Biliary Cholangitis, and stable haemochromatosis in consultation with the Hepatology Consultants. The relevant guidelines / 
protocols will be provided to carry out these functions.

The post holder will also be involved in the development of the BASL cirrhosis care bundle.As a service improvement plan, assist with early review of post-discharge patients. The post holder will advance the role by integrating the four key aspects of clinical practice, service management, education and research whilst collaborating closely with other members 
of the multidisciplinary team to develop and monitor standards of care.

Main duties of the job

To be actively involved in planning, implementing and evaluation processes in response to national and local policy developments for liver diseases.
To participate and where appropriate take a leading role in the planning, implementing and evaluation of policies, procedures, and guidelines for the care of patients with liver diseases.
To maintain databases in accordance with local and national standards
To ensure that all Trust policies are complied with, brought to the attention of all staff and are readily and easily accessible.
To comply with the NHS Code of Conduct.
To be able to transfer knowledge /understanding to other staff and ensure that standards are maintained. 
Regular management team and clinical team review of service with adaptation, as necessary.
