The Harm Free Care Team are pleased to be able to offer this exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly skilled Children’s Sepsis Nurse to join our existing established team in providing high quality and professional services for the ‘at risk’ patients. You will be an experienced Children’s nurse and able to utilise your clinical expertise and specialist knowledge to support our staff with recognising and preventing sepsis.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is passionate about the care of deteriorating patients and who will enjoy the challenge of working in this demanding but highly rewarding role.

The successful applicant will contribute to the smooth running of the Sepsis Team; support the children and young people’s clinical lead in the implementation of the sepsis pathway and action tool for all children and young people that are identified as potentially having sepsis.  The sepsis nurse role will support the continued development and implementation of trust wide education programmes for nursing and medical staff in addition to relevant non-clinical staff and Allied healthcare professional following evidence-based guidelines and definitions.  This role offers support to clinical areas to identify local sepsis champions to improve the education and compliance with the screening, recognition, treatment, and on-going management of sepsis.  The sepsis nurse will have a strong clinical presence within the ward/departmental areas supporting medical and nursing teams in the implementation of the sepsis bundle.

Within this role you must be able to demonstrate outstanding clinical skills and sound evidence-based decision making. You will carry out assessment and care of deteriorating patients leading to early intervention and treatment. You must have excellent communication skills and be able to work autonomously. Formal and informal education is an integral part of this role, and the successful applicant will take an active part in education around the management of deteriorating patients.

Through audit you will ensure that high standards of patient-centred care are maintained whilst acknowledging the cost-effective use of resources. Additionally, you will contribute to and support quality improvement initiatives to deliver lasting change.  You will ideally be educated to degree level, have a post registration Acute Care Course/Critical Care Course (or equivalent), and strong assessment skills.
