An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at HMP Littlehey in the Health Care Team.   We are looking for an individual who possess a caring, positive attitude and is dedicated and conscientious. Good communication abilities, compassion and organisational skills are paramount. The candidates will have the ability to lead by example and work well in a team. A strong interest in working with prisoners is essential.

The primary focus of this post will be to deliver the highest standard of care required to meet the diverse and complex healthcare needs of an adult male population.

Health care services are delivered from two modern well equipped healthcare centres by a multi-disciplinary team who have, in the past, won the prestigious WHO European Best Practice Award and NHFT Team of the Year in 2018.

HMP Littlehey is a Category C prison situated in the picturesque village of Perry in Cambridgeshire and has free parking, staff restaurant and onsite gymnasium. The prison accommodates 1240 adult male prisoners.

We are a warm and friendly team who pride ourselves on delivering a high standard of care. Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To be a Senior Clinician for custodial healthcare within the establishment, providing expert –level advice on prisoner healthcare and their management/needs both within the healthcare arena and also to non-clinical staff of all disciplines across the local establishment.
  • Respond to medical emergencies as emergency “first responder”, coordinating care and providing clinical leadership whilst delivering pre-hospital clinical care of a high standard to prisoners. To provide medical support/advice to the establishment when prisoners are relocated under “control and restraint”.
  • To administer medication in accordance with NMC guidelines. To contribute extensively to the risk assessments of the “in-possession” policy in collaboration with the Pharmacy Team.
  • To be professionally accountable for individual practice, working within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. To maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical records on the clinical IT system, in accordance with NMC guidance. To provide statistical reports on clinical activity as required.
  • To employ advanced clinical decision making and triage skills in deciding which clinical pathway fits the needs of the prisoners at “first contact”. To ensure that prisoners who require emergency transfer are assessed using the Medical Early Warning Score, appropriately stabilized and that a comprehensive handover is given to paramedics.

HMP Littlehey is a category C male training prison with an operational capacity of 1240. Clinical services are delivered from two modern, well-equipped Healthcare Centres within the prison.

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust won the contract to provide a fully integrated healthcare service, commencing 1st April 2015.

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
