Job overview
The Child Health Directorate at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are delighted to be able to develop our nursing leadership team on the Scarborough site, with the introduction of a Paediatric Band 7 Ward Manager for Rainbow Ward, and the development of a new Children’s Assessment Unit.
The post holder will be required to provide a team approach whilst working autonomously. This exciting role requires a dynamic leader to be proficient in all aspects of ward management, whilst guiding the team in providing excellent clinical care. The successful candidate will act as a role model to others, upholding the trust values.
We are committed to service transformation and as such we are engaging in discussions with the wider teams to explore the relocation of the Children’s Ward to a new area within the hospital, and the development of a Children’s Assessment Unit.
In line with wider developments on the Scarborough site, including Urgent and Emergency Care, we will be developing efficient and effective systems and processes to improve patient flow and overall experience. The successful candidate will understand these service demands and the wider impact upon the Trust, with an ability to manage calmly and competently. As such, the post holder requires exemplary skills in effective communication, problem solving and innovative thinking and practice, whist maintaining a safe quality service ensuring the team have stability, support and clear direction.
Main duties of the job
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals provides acute paediatric services in York and Scarborough. This role will require close collaborative interpersonal relationships with colleagues’ cross site, to ensure a robust paediatric leadership team. We desire individuals who have a calm disposition and are hardworking, enthusiastic, dedicated and have a passion for delivering high quality acute paediatric care in busy departments.
The children’s ward takes daily ward attenders and is a 14 bedded unit providing all aspects of care to children and young people 0 – 18 years. We are a friendly and supportive team rising to the challenges and working hard to achieve our targets.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- • Registered Nurse (Level 1)
- • Qualification in speciality paediatric
- • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
- • Evidence of continued professional development
- • Willing to undergo training as necessary
Desirable criteria
- • Degree in Nursing or Related subject
Experience and Knowledge Required

- • At least 18 months recent experience at management level or equivalent within a paediatrics environment
- • Experience of managing and leading a team
