Job overview

This post aims to support the Resuscitation Lead and Senior Resuscitation Officer in the delivery of a resuscitation service to Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and associated personnel. This will involve working at Harrogate District Hospital and visiting community sites across the North of England. 

 The post-holder will deliver specialist resuscitation education to all Trust staff including doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. They will also be a resource for advice regarding resuscitation both in education and clinical practice for the Trust and provide and promote the provision of high quality patient care.

 The post-holder will assist with auditing of resuscitation related procedures, processes, events, and equipment within acute and community settings.

The post-holder will support the values, objectives and goals of HDFT and the Resuscitation Department.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the development of a cardiac arrest prevention strategy that will include teaching staff how to assess the critically ill adult and apply appropriate interventions and escalation to expert services.

 To deliver basic, intermediate and advanced adult and paediatric life support training to Trust staff as identified in the Resuscitation Policy. This will include the delivery of training to a wide range of staff disciplines including administrative, therapy, nursing and medical staff in a variety of settings including clinical areas as required. The post holder will be expected to travel to a variety of settings to deliver training to community staff.

 To assist in the maintenance of the key trainer scheme for basic life support to optimise the delivery of basic life support.

Ensure that accurate training records are maintained and be proactive in recalling and arranging training with staff, in particular for BLS Key Trainers.

 Manage cleaning; storage; maintenance and re-stocking of equipment used to deliver training.  Ensuring equipment is maintained, checked and available for use.

 Ensure that storage and training areas are kept tidy and appropriately stocked, thereby ensuring a positive learning environment.

Evidence of experience and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • ALS instructor (or instructor potential/ candidate)
  • 2 years experience in acute, emergency or critical care
  • Previous teaching experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in delivering resuscitation training
  • Experience of Paediatric care/ resuscitation management
  • Currently working in a role managing serious illness and resuscitation
  • Experience of clinical audit
