Wensleydale ward is a new acute cardiology and respiratory medical ward which is innovating digital technology. We have a high turnover of patients with acute medical needs.  We have a four bedded Coronary Care Unit, and a four bedded high observation bay care for patients requiring Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) or High Flow Oxygen therapy. We also take a number of other patients from other medical specialities for cardiac monitoring, such as electrolyte imbalances.

The ward is led by Sister Rachael Dealhoy, a team of dedicated Band 6 Sisters, and a supportive Matron. This is a new post to support the Nurses to safely use Cardiac Monitors, NIV and HFOT. All nurses are offered the opportunity to undertake key clinical skills training including cannulation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, HFOT and NIV training. We run our own in house CCU training competency which this new role will support.
