Clinical Nurse Specialist for Acute Pain

Job overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist for Acute Pain will be a clinical expert and professional resource to provide extensive clinical advise and support to colleagues around the Trust.
The post holder will contribute to the development of this specialist area of practice and quality of care delivered by working with the Acute Pain Multi-Disciplinary Team.
The post holder will be required to work flexibly, incorporating weekend working on a rota.
Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will:
- Work as an autonomous practitioner, assessing, planning and evaluating treatment plans for patients referred to the service and provide specialist, evidence based care and nursing skills.
- Take a key role in the in-service training, preceptorship and supervision of junior staff and students, including medical staff, supporting all educational activities of the Acute Pain Service.
- Participate and contribute to clinical audits for monitoring and maintaining high standards of clinical care.
- To deputise for the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist for Acute Pain in their absence.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse with NMC
- Recognised teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
- Non-medical prescriber
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post registration experience at band 5 or above within surgical specialities
- Knowledge and experience of nursing patients with complex modalities such as epidurals
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Leadership experience
- Experience of audit, research and evidence based care
Skills
Essential criteria
- IT literate
- Teaching/assessment and presentation skills
