NNUH is currently the busiest Trauma Unit in the East of England caring for almost 850 trauma patients annually many with complex care needs. We are enhancing our urgent and emergency care specialist services for patients with significant injuries as a result of trauma and have an ambition to become a Major Trauma Centre.

Denton Ward cares for patients having Colorectal and General Surgery. We are also an integral part of The Sir Thomas Browne Academic Colorectal Unit, the largest colorectal department in England with excellent patient outcomes. Our surgeons are internationally recognised, and we work collaboratively with them to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. You will become a valued member of this committed and supportive team, who are passionate about continuous improvement and providing excellent patient care. As a specialised unit we can offer the successful candidate the opportunities to gain managerial experience along with clinical care.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high quality patient care, by providing professional, clinical and managerial leadership. To take charge of the Ward/Department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse and provide support and guidance to all staff.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register
  • To have completed the mentorship preparation programme or equivalent if applicable to clinical area
  • Post registration qualification relevant to the clinical area

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience at Band 5 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty
  • Experience of managing and leading a clinical area
  • Experience in change management

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competency in advanced clinical skills including enhanced practice
