We are delighted to advertise the opportunity for a passionate, dedicated, and inspirational nurse to join our Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner team as a Paediatric Nurse Practitioner on our vibrant Children’s Assessment Unit based within our Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital.

 Our fabulous Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital incorporates inpatient, ambulatory, emergency and outpatient care. We treat children and young people across a broad range of specialties including Paediatric medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Plastics, and Gastroenterology, including a dedicated level 2 PHDU. We offer care to children living in Norfolk and for those accessing specialist treatment across the Eastern Region.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) performs a developmental clinical role within the speciality of paediatrics to enhance the care of children and their families.  As the successful post holder, you will:

 

  • provide holistic care using advanced clinical skills as part of the multidisciplinary team. 
  • perform a comprehensive assessment of child and family health care needs; developing advanced clinical skills and under supervision will discuss and plan higher-level decision-making to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, evaluate care  delivery according to changing health and illness and discharge.

 

Working together and supporting senior clinicians in the case management of patients including ordering and interpreting investigations and prescribing, the PNP will safely and effectively provide care for paediatric patients and their families admitted to the Children’s Assessment Unit and the Paediatric wards or those children attending the outpatient setting.

 

The PNP will utilise an evidence-based approach to the management of child health and illness including the critical application of research and audit findings relevant to the management of children and their families.

 

The post holder will work closely with the APNPs, Divisional Nurse Director, Directorate Operational lead, Paediatrics and the senior paediatric team to support both the Directorate’s local governance agenda and the national agenda for nursing and children is fully met.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·    Develop good working relationships with medical and nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team within and in other departments within the Trust and external organisations and agencies.

 

·        Assist lead nurse in providing nursing leadership within the Directorate, focusing on clinical issues for nursing staff within sphere of responsibility.

 

·        Act in accordance with the NMC guidelines/code of Professional Conduct.

 

·  Receive regular appropriate supervision and mentorship from a Consultant Paediatrician and Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioners (APNPs) in line with recommendations from the relevant academic institution where MSc is being undertaken. 

 

·        Assess the health status of infants, children and young people through physical examination and diagnostic studies in consultation with Paediatricians and relevant members of the health care team.

 

·         Perform selected and approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with ratified protocols and the Code of Professional Practice.

  • Registered Nurse on appropriate part of the NMC register (RN Child/RSCN)
  • Degree level in relevant subject
  • EPLS/APLS Cert
