NNUH is currently the busiest Trauma Unit in the East of England caring for almost 850 trauma patients annually many with complex care needs. We are enhancing our urgent and emergency care specialist services for patients with significant injuries as a result of trauma and have an ambition to become a Major Trauma Centre.

We are excited to share that we have full time and part time opportunities for Band 6 deputy team leaders within our Theatre team.
We are a brand new stand alone Paediatric Theatre Complex, comprising of 2 elective theatres and a 6 bay PACU (Post anaesthetic care unit) area.
The Divisions of Surgery and Women and Children will be integrated. Developing a service, workforce and strategy that supports and embeds the Trust’s Children’s Strategy
Modernising our workforce, we will provide CPD packages for all staff with clear progression pathways. The Trust supports a paediatric competency package, providing knowledge and skills training and evidence of all staff’s competencies within the speciality of paediatrics, ensuring Trust’s standards are upheld throughout all departments. The NNUH enjoys strong links with the UEA and within paediatrics it helps create the JLTC Society
Main duties of the job
- The post-holder is responsible for supporting the Clinical Leader and a small, cohesive multi-disciplinary team in;
- Provide positive and caring leadership while being a strong role model, and demonstrating the Trust’s PRIDE (People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence) values at all times. Inspiring staff development through personal encouragement and professional development through our PDR process and up-holding high standards of care on our journey to excellence
- Manage the efficient utilisation of operating theatre lists, minimising delays and preventing on the day cancellations
- Have an in depth knowledge of the surgical pathway and design processes around the unique needs of the child and young person
- Have a complete knowledge and understanding of Trust Policies, guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures and with the ability to write new Standards relevant to the new complex and ensure all of these are implemented and adhered to throughout the Complex
- Holds Trusts Paediatric Competencies
- Assist with the recruitment and retention of staff
- Support with Staff Health and Well Being, Sickness management, under the guidance of the Clinical leader
- Assist with staff development of all grades including Band 4’s. Taking active role in Appraisals and Mandatory Training
Involvement with all relevant National and Local Audits, with a responsibility to encourage 100% compliance and commitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To exercise leadership by personal example, fostering good interpersonal relationships and encouraging high staff morale
- Co-ordinate and communicate the placement of appropriate personnel/skills across the department and other areas in the Trust, including in the event of untoward incidents e.g. MAJAX.
- Undertake designated responsibilities in the event of a ‘MAJAX’ in accordance with trust guidelines
- Participate in the management of resources in the clinical area within the agreed budget.
- Implement Trust and directorate evidence based policies and guidelines
- Able to interpret changes in patient physical signs and take appropriate action. Cardiac and Respiratory arrest and resuscitation of patients.
- Responsible for assembling specialised medical equipment ready for use on patients e.g. compartment syndrome monitoring.
- Ensure that the care of all patients is assessed, planned, implemented, evaluated, and appropriately documented.
- Deliver a high quality service for all patients within sphere of responsibility
- Act as role model and be a credible practitioner within the clinical area

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner on the appropriate part of the NMC/ Health Care Professions Council register
Desirable criteria
- Have or be working towards a health related degree.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience at Band 5, of which some should be in a position relevant to the specialty.
- Experience of managing and leading a clinical area.
