NNUH is currently the busiest Trauma Unit in the East of England caring for almost 850 trauma patients annually many with complex care needs. We are enhancing our urgent and emergency care specialist services for patients with significant injuries as a result of trauma and have an ambition to become a Major Trauma Centre.

Job overview
The Complex Health Hub consists of 6 specialties, mental health, substance misuse, safeguarding, dementia support, mental capacity and learning disability and autism.
The purpose of the hub is to bring the 6 specialties together to support the hospital to improve the care, treatment, and outcomes for individuals with complex needs. Working in a multi-disciplinary way enables our staff to discuss ideas, concerns, and complex cases with each other to identify and implement the appropriate intervention, increasing the likelihood of the best outcome for the patient being achieved.
This post holder will sit within the mental health specialty of the hub. This new and exciting opportunity will see the successful candidate support the Mental Health Deputy Service Manager to set-up and establish a new service within the Complex Health Hub aimed at providing specialist input within paediatric areas for children with an identified mental health need.

Main duties of the job
- Lead the delivery of integrated care planning and person-centered interventions for children with an identified mental health need and/or complex psychological needs whilst working alongside the multidisciplinary team in the implementation and review.
- Complete initial assessments, robust risk assessments and treatment plans for children with an identified mental health need that form part of discharge planning, community reintegration and support ward staff in the safe and effective management of the child. These plans will be shared via the multidisciplinary team and regularly reviewed.
- Provide expert advice, guidance, and support to staff (in areas as specified within this job description) in how to support the management of high-risk patients using least restrictive and compassionate practice, whilst role modelling best practice.
- Work as a registered professional who is further trained within their professional bodies scope of practice (training to be provided by NNUH) in providing enhanced physical health care, specific to the treatment of a mental disorder for example, insertion of nasogastric tubes.
- Lead and manage a small team of practitioners.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Ensure practice is in accordance with the professional governing body and work within limits of competence.
- Assist the Ward/Department manager in maintaining standards of nursing practice.
- To lead in the implementation of robust risk assessments and care plans for patients who are identified with a mental disorder, including; eating disorders and neurodevelopmental needs.
- Carry out and advise/supervise mental health assistant practitioners in the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care specifically in relation to managing children with a mental disorder.
- To support the clinical team in reviewing levels of enhanced observations for patients who display high risk and/or vulnerable behaviours.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered practitioner with a current valid registration with NMC, HCPC or Social Work England
- Evidence of continuing professional development and maintenance of a personal professional file
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience at Band 6 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty (CAMHS)
Skills
Essential criteria
- Significant experience in assessing patients in a CAMHS setting with complex mental health needs and creating safety management plans to manage risk
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
