Job overview

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking band 5 children’s nurse to sit within the children’s community nursing team and provide training to outside organisations and individuals. The role of the children’s nurse – trainer is a new role within the trust, by sitting within the children’s community nursing team this role will benefit from the support and expertise of our experienced and dynamic children’s community nurses.  The post holder will provide care planning, training, and assessment of non-registered people in the delivery of clinical tasks to children with routine and complex health care needs, this will allow children to flourish within any setting. The post holder will require a high level of clinical and interpersonal skills to deliver training in a variety of settings to a variety of different people.  They will work with families and professionals to develop robust and safe care plans, empowering individuals to provide care to children and young people with additional health needs.

 

The post holder will need to be flexible working at times in the evening and occasionally at the weekend.  This post is fixed term for a period of 12 months.

Main duties of the job

To act as a specialist support, educator, and resource to all other relevant professionals, e.g., health, education, social care and voluntary agencies

To offer and provide relevant training and support and advice to teaching welfare and social services staff in relation to children and young peoples' individual needs.

To support the Children's Community Nursing Team and Paediatric Nurse Advisors building the exiting service to met the changing needs of children/young people with complex health care needs.

To work with the nursing teams to develop evidence  based practice by utilising research and auditing clinical effectiveness for the children in the community.

To contribute to the development of guidelines, protocols, and care pathways for the management of children who require a clinical intervention.

Ensure that all practice is in accordance with most recent NMC Code:  Standards of Conduct, Performance, and Ethics:  Standards for Medicines, Management and Standards of Record Keeping.

To comply with all policies, procedures, clinical protocols, standards and guidelines based on legislation, evidence based nursing practice and NMC guidelines for conduct and professional practice.

Ensure accurate record keeping as per trust policy and NMC Guidelines.

Adhere to the Medicines Management Code and NMC Standards for the safe keeping and administration of medicines.

 

 

Working for our organisation

To act in accordance with the Norfolk Safeguarding Children's Board policies and procedures in relation to child protection issues.  To attend annual update session for Level 3 safeguarding training.

To apply analytical skills through application of Framework for Assessment of Need in order to support assessment process, report writing.

To collect data as required on caseload activity.

To participate in clinical and child protection supervision according to Trust policy.

To evaluate and develop own knowledge and practice using personal development plans and appropriate learning opportunities, in order to apply learning to future practice.

To be cost effective in the use of resources.

Co-operate fully with the implementation of the Trust Health and Safety arrangements, reporting accidents/incidents to nurse in charge/team leader, and initiating a full investigation in a timely manner, whilst taking responsibility to complete appropriate documentation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to participate as part of the children's nursing team using a person-centred approach, access, plan, implement and evaluate care delivered.

To provide quality care to children in partnership with families and carers as commissioned and described within the service specification.

Assess the health and training requirements of children and young people with the individual care environment.  To develop, implement and evaluate care plans in partnership with patient/young person families and carers whilst working in close co-operation with other disciplines.

To assist the training of less experienced registered staff, nursing auxiliaries, health care assistants and student nurses ensuring compliance to NMC standards to support learning assessment in practice.

To provide, implement and regularly assess clinical training to identified staff in a variety of settings.

To support and train parents/carers to undertake a range of clinical interventions specific to each child/young person's needs.
