Return to Practice Nurse
Band 4
Job overview
Are you a former nurse with the desire and drive to return to practice? Are you looking for a supportive environment to return to the NMC Register and back into your nursing career?
An exciting opportunity has arisen within The Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for previously registered adult nurses, wishing to return to the nursing profession. There are two entry routes for readmission to the NMC register, which can be undertaken through a Return to Practice Course or completion of the NMC Computer Based Test exam (CBT) and the Test of Competence (TOC- Objective Structured Clinical Exam).
Main duties of the job
The course is provided in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University and is for qualified Nurses whose registration with the NMC has lapsed. We are currently recruiting to positions in a variety of clinical areas where you will be supported by Practice supervisors, assessors and educators. You will need to complete of a minimum of 150 hours of assessed practice hours working across the full 24 hour service.
The practice placement requirement of your Return to Practice Programme will be based on your employing ward. You will be released to attend all required teaching and our experienced practice supervisors and assessors will support you to achieve your learning outcomes.
For those applicants wishing to undertake readmission to the register through the Test of Competence route you will be supported in preparation for the OSCE test of competence by the Practice Development Team and the cost of the exam will be covered by the Trust.
Working for our organisation
Throughout your Return to Practice period, you will be employed in a substantive Band 4 post with progression to Band 5 on successful completion of the course or the NMC Test of Competence and re-registration with the NMC.
Full time and part time posts are available (the minimum hours recommended for part time are 22.5 hours per week to enable university attendance and effective practice experience). You will need to indicate the date when your registration with the NMC expired, your branch of nursing and preferred areas of work.
On successful completion of the module or OSCE, students will be able to demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes, which are mapped to the Future Nurse: standards of proficiency for registered nurses (NMC, 2018) and the Standards of proficiency for midwives. You will also be required to complete the Trust Preceptorship programme for newly registered practitioners once you are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
