Trosolwg o'r swydd

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Ophthalmology Directorate for  Health Care Support Workers to join a friendly and professional nursing team providing specialist ophthalmic surgical care in the post of theatre assistant.

Successful candidates will be based at the new South East Wales Regional Ophthalmology Centre, Nevill Hall Hospital but with the expectation that they may be required to work at different locations across Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to support Ophthalmology services. 

The Regional Ophthalmology Centre is anticipated to provide a fully integrated pre-admission and treatment centre and will provide cataract surgery for patients from Cwm Taff, Cardiff and the Vale and Aneurin Bevan geographical areas. 

Applications are invited from HCSW’s with good communication skills both written and verbal and who are committed to providing high standards of care for patients of all ages, their families and carers.

Experience of the speciality is not required and full training will be given.

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The post holder will support the delivery of clinical health care services to adults and children attending Ophthalmic theatres and clinics within ABUHB.

Following training and achievement of competences, the post holder will contribute to the provision of Ophthalmic surgical care by providing a high-quality patient and public focussed service for children and adult patients across a variety of sub-specialties under the direction of registered nurse team

The post holder should have the ability to work closely with members of the multi-disciplinary teams and demonstrate an ability to communicate with patients, relatives and carers who may be emotionally distressed or have barriers to understanding such as learning difficulties, language, hearing or visual impairment and to younger patients.

The post holder will plan their own work alongside registered team within standard operating procedures and policies, to undertake a range of delegated clinical patient care duties.

The post holder will work within both ophthalmic theatre, day case and pre-assessment areas to meet the needs of the service on days across the whole week including weekends when required.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
