Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our new Regional Ophthalmology Theatre Team in the role of scrub nurse.

No previous experience is essential as we would provide all necessary training and courses to develop in to a specialist ophthalmology scrub nurse role.

We are seeking self-motivated, dynamic, kind, caring and compassionate individuals to work alongside our diverse team. Successful candidates will work in Theatre at Nevill Hall Hospital  to ensure that ABUHB is providing an efficient and effective service for patients  undergoing elective ophthalmic surgical procedures as part of the South East Wales regional service and provide cross site cover when needed occasionally to support ophthalmology theatre services.

The successful candidates must hold first level RN registration. It is essential  to have effective communication skills, problem solving skills, be able to liaise with members of multi-disciplinary team and  will be expected to support the Regional Ophthalmology Unit Manager and Band 6 deputy.

The post holder will work within both ophthalmic theatre, day case and pre-assessment areas to meet the needs of the service on days across the whole week including weekends when required.

Main duties of the job

Principle duties of this post will be to support in theatre with ophthalmic surgery as scrub nurse.

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

To contribute to the smooth running of the department in terms of taking charge of the department in the absence of the department manager and deputy, assisting in all clinical areas, ophthalmic theatre, day case and pre-assessment areas to meet the needs of the service on days across the whole week including weekends as required.

To participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
