Job overview

The Nurse Endoscopist/Gastroenterology practitioner will provide clinical support to medical staff and perform endoscopic procedures (Gastroscopy and/or Colonoscopy) with or without sedation on a selected patient group.

Applicants who are single modality trained are also welcome to apply and will be considered.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as an expert in nursing within Gastroenterology services.
  • Provide an autonomous diagnostic endoscopic service to an identified patient group, in the form of Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy.
  • Support junior medical staff in providing a quality service to Gastroenterology patients and patients attending endoscopy.
  • Develop standards of best practice, protocols and patient group directions in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Support Risk Management process within Wirral Hospital Trust.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse
  • 5 years post registration experience
  • Working towards MSC or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • JAG accredited colorectal techniques course – Degree Level
  • Conscious sedation course – Degree Level
  • Advanced life support certificate – Degree Level
  • Clinical examination course – Degree Level

Knowledge and Skills

Desirable criteria
  • ENB998 Teaching and Training
  • JAG accredited Train the Trainers course (necessary to teach Endoscopy doctors in training)

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Autonomous Endoscopist in both gastroscopy and colonoscopy
  • Specialist knowledge of Upper and Lower GI conditions
