Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the leadership team in the busy, fast paced Emergency Department at Wirral University Teaching Hospital.

Our friendly, dynamic and talented team requires senior nurses with experience in emergency nursing to join them to become part of our senior nursing team as a Band 7 Sister or Charge Nurse.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking enthusiastic, highly motivated, compassionate senior nurses. You will need to possess a passion for improving quality of care and patient experience, as well as a drive to deliver outstanding, efficient emergency care. Leading and guiding the nursing team in a supportive and nurturing manner will be pivotal to the role.

You will be required to work closely and collaboratively with the Senior Nursing and Operational leadership teams to ensure outstanding, efficient and seamless care is delivered to all patients who attend the department.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • 1st level registered Nurse
  • Evidence of recent post registration study in a specialty related to ED e.g. ALS, ATLS, APLS
  • All practitioners with diploma level primary qualification must be working towards higher award in specialist practice (Degree)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience within a critical care environment of which 2 years at Sister/Charge Nurse ED level.

  • Ability to identify learning needs in others
  • Work based Assessors course
  • Evidence of involvement in producing teaching strategies/packages

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge base of emergency nursing practice
  • Competent in all key skills of ED nursing practice
  • Evidence of an initiative which has changed or enhanced quality of care and/or clinical practice
  • Competent in organising own work load and that of others
  • Able to prioritise
  • Good problem solving abilities
  • Good time Management
  • Awareness of Health Policies and the changing NHS environment
  • Have undertaken the appraisal of staff
  • Be aware national, local and professional protocols, standards and guidelines.
  • Proactive attitude to clinical management issues
  • Excellent Communicator (verbal and written)
  • Communicate with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary groups regarding all aspects of patient care
