Dual Role Practitioner - St Helens

We are looking to recruit a dynamic Theatre Dual Role Practitioner to join our highly skilled teams here at St Helens Day Case theatre department. The managerial structure consists of a Day Case Matron, two dedicated Band 7 Day Case Leads, a Band 7 Risk and Governance lead and Team Leaders, covering a wide range of surgical specialities.
The post holder will be expected to actively support the dedicated multi-disciplinary team within the Operating Theatre environment, working within a wide variety of surgical specialties. You must have excellent communication skills, and be flexible in working shifts, as per a rota system. The post holder may be required to work across both Whiston and St Helens sites but will be based at the St Helens site. This is a Day Case Unit; therefore, the applicant will not be required to work night shifts or participate in the on-call system.
The position will be based in St Helens theatres which is a Day Case Unit where we consider flexible working requests and have a dedicated education team and clinical practice lead on site to support them in the role. The applicant will not be required to work night shifts or participate in the on-call system. The applicant will be flexible working weekends (currently Saturdays only) and may be asked to work across site in Whiston theatres if required.
An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for the post.

- To participate in the preparation of theatre prior to the list, ensuring all equipment is clean and available for use.
- To assist in the safe positioning of patients in theatre, as per the trust policy.
- To support the scrub/anaesthetic team during procedures, anticipating their requirements.
- To assist the scrub practitioner to prepare for the cases
- To participate in swab and instrument checks.
- To safely dispose of clinical waste and sharps as per trust policy.
- To Handle and prepare specimens, ensuring correct labelling and packaging for transportation to the laboratory.

KEY DUTIES

- To assist in the documentation of patients records both written and electronic in accordance with the trust policy.
- Teach circulating duties to all new grades of staff
- To answer bleeps and phones and relay messages
- To clean and check patients trolleys daily.
- Transfer patients from wards and departments to theatre and return.
- Deliver specimens to pathology each morning
- Collect or return blood and blood products from pathology.
- Assist with collection and removal of rubbish and linen to appropriate collection points.
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acting as a role model within the clinical working area and to present a professional image which inspires confidence and trust in the delivery of care.
- At all times to act as the patient’s advocate, by considering their individual physical and psychological needs, whilst providing and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- To participate in the requirements of the service as required when necessary, including weekends (currently Saturday only, no Sundays or Bank Holidays).
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
- To attend regular mandatory update training, fire lectures, moving and handling and resuscitation training within the requirements of the Trusts health and safety policy.
- To promote an environment within one’s own work area that is conducive to learning.
- To actively develop own learning and develop clinical skills required to provide a high standard of Care.
- To support learners in the area as own skills develop. Assist in the training programmes developed for individuals undergoing training in your work area.

- NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare/Operating Department Support, willing to work towards or equivalent experience
- GCSE Level or equivalent in English and Maths
