Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior theatre Practitioner position with the Main Theatres department at the Royal University hospital site.

We are looking for a motivated individual with experience in the day-to-day service activity and that is looking to continue contributing to the different ongoing improvement projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for senior practitioners and, specially, for the ones that are interested in carer progression, patient safety and team development.

The successful candidate is expected to commit to a full-time working duty including late hours, weekends, and bank Holidays. The Practitioner will have experience within the scrub role, across the multiple specialities and will need to be an organised individual who can lead a team, in close collaboration with the Unit Manager, ensuring that highest standards of patient safety and care are maintained. You will be able to monitor the use of equipment and resources, ensuring cost effectiveness with a sensible focus in staff wellbeing.

Main duties of the job

Lead the department and deputise the Theatre Manager.

You will provide exemplary planned care for patients requiring perioperative intervention supporting the management.

You will lead your team in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice to improve quality and maintain our high standards of theatre practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Excellent communication skills and flexibility will be an essential trait of anyone applying for this post also deputising for members of the Band 7 team will be a requirement. The development of junior colleagues will be an important part of your role therefore a relevant teaching certificate or experience is essential.

The successful candidate will provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multidisciplinary team; they will also be expected to work as an expert clinical practitioner providing through themselves and their theatre an excellent quality of care to patients and service users. 

The post holder will provide skilled specialist assistance in the delivery of high-quality patient care throughout the Operating Department and committed to providing first class care to all patients. Must have excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse, current NMC registration/Registered ODP, current HPC registration
  • Qualification relevant to specialist area (Diploma/Degree in Specialized Theatre Practice,NB 182/176,HEA605)or equivalent course
  • Mentorship course or Teaching and Assessing course (ENB 998,C&G756,Mentorship in Practice,D32/D33,)
Desirable criteria
  • ILS/ALS

Experience

  • A demonstrable post registration experience in relevant theatre area ,of which at least one year should be at a supervisory level
  • Responsibility for running clinical areas on a shift/daily basis

  • Evidence of mentorship within specialist field and appraisals as appropriate
  • Evidence of active participation in development of unit guidelines/initiatives
