Job overview

We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic applicants to become Emergency Nurse Practitioners in a supportive environment, learning to provide excellent care to a wide range of patients with urgent minor injury and minor illness problems.

As part of the senior nurse team responsible for the delivery of high-quality care for patients attending the Emergency Department/ UTC at Manchester Foundation Trust. The post holder will be a independent practitioner providing treatment and care from admission to discharge for those patients identified within ENP/Minor injury protocols.

Within this role, the post holder will be an independent practitioner and autonomously assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and discharge patients within their scope of competence, for patients presenting to the emergency department/ UTC with minor injuries and minor illnesses. Scope of practice will be guided by departmental policy (including job description) and evidence of clinical / educational proficiency following assessment / supervision with the Nurse Consultant/ Senior ENPs/ ACPs.

Main duties of the job

As a ENP it is expected that you will already have a good knowledge of Emergency Care and have at least 6 months experience as an ENP. Patients present with a wide range of undifferentiated conditions. ENPs are not expected to see patients under 12 months of age but will be expected to care for children over 12 months and adults of all ages with isolated injuries not related to long term conditions.

You will be expected to provide advice and guidance to the multidisciplinary team and ensure all records and documentation are completed and relevant. The role requires you to be an expert in your own field of practice and will require you to provide ad hoc teaching and supervision for other members of staff in ED. Including trainee ANP, ENP, nurses, PAs and medical staff.

The role involves managing staff, rotas, appraisals, recruitment and selection, resource control and budgetary management for the area. As a band 7 ENP the role involves responsibility for the minor’s area and will support your colleagues and therefore will require enhanced communication skills in order to deal with the broad range of issues involved in the day-to-day management of the ward/dept./unit.
