Job overview

An exciting opportunity become available for a band 6  Sister/Charge Nurse on a fast-paced Surgical Urology/ENT Ward.

We are looking for an enthusiastic motivated individual with a passion for nursing who has the ambition/drive to develop new services.

You will be part of an expanding team providing innovative urology services. Ward D7  has one of the most varied branches s one of the most varied branches of surgery encompassing diseases of the kidneys, bladder, prostate, incontinence, and cancer reconstruction of the genito-urinary tract.

The team comprises several Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and therapists and works towards a multi-disciplinary team approach.

We expect strong nursing values and a commitment to providing patients and families with a culture of care, compassion, professionalism and respect.

Professional development is supported within the department and Trust.

The successful candidate will be a qualified nurse with evidence of leadership skills in an Acute Trust. You will be flexible and proactive.

Experience working in Urology would be an advantage but not essential.

Main duties of the job

You will be an experienced nurse looking for a challenge to progress your career in nursing. You will demonstrate excellent knowledge & previous experience in caring for urology patients processing excellent leadership skills. You will be working collaboratively with other MDT members. You will be confident in working under your initiative & able to prioritise your clinical care, admissions and discharges accordingly.

You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership & management skills with the support of the Ward Manager & Matron. You will receive full induction/support for relevant training to become a competent sister/charge nurse to manage a 28-bed ward. You will then support the Ward Manager and the Junior staff in completing staff appraisals, training, and managing the ward budget.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be a visible & accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives & staff.

Lead by example & act as a positive role model taking responsibility for own professional development.

Ensure effective communication is maintained both within the Dept & with relevant external agencies or individuals.

Organise own workload & adjust priorities in response to issues arising in the workplace.

Recognise & respond to issues which require urgent or immediate attention, reporting to other members of the multi-disciplinary/ management team as necessary.

Deputise for the Department Manager as required.

Ensure comprehensive clinical records are maintained.

Support the management of roster allocation to provide safe staffing levels in line with the agreed workforce model.

Ensure the provision of compassionate, safe & high quality care of all patients & supervise the working of junior staff & trainees during the span of duty.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £43.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
