Clinical
 Provide clinical and professional leadership of staff supporting the Trust lead SACT nurse to ensure the delivery of the highest professional standards through staff development and individual performance appraisal/review.
 Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding in the use of SACT within multiple tumour sites, including haemato-oncology.
 Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in the safe administration of SACT including appropriate and intravenous access, management of central venous access, venepuncture, management of extravasation and SACT toxicity.
 Promote a culture of respectful relationships through professional role modelling conveying the principles required for nurses to improve the patients experience e.g. Pre - SACT consultation and involving patients in their care.
 Provide advice, support and symptom management for patients and carers within the scope of expected practice aligned with the ACCEND framework for registered/enhanced level of practice.
 Ensure a high quality of written and other information is available for patients and their carers to support understanding of potential side effects of treatment and how to access professional advice to support self-management.
 Communicate highly complex and sensitive information to patients and carers within clinical competence.
 To make judgements surrounding complex health concerns or situations which require analysis, interpretation and a range of care options to enable the initiation of nursing care interventions.
 Support outpatient clinics ensuring patients have appropriate support and information as well as an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns, providing written and verbal information in relation to SACT.  Undertake specialist assessments of individual patients receiving SACT, identifying potential complications and toxicities of treatment, referring to other multidisciplinary team members as appropriate
 Support discussions within the Multi-Disciplinary team (MDT). Supporting with the communication of outcomes with patients, clinicians, and other relevant members of the MDT.
 Advise patients and their families regarding future management and liaise as appropriate with the multi-disciplinary health care teams, including voluntary agencies and hospices.
 Complete and utilise Advanced Communications Skills and Psychological Support Level 2 training in daily practice.
 Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to support the implementation of local, regional and national strategies.
 Meet and welcome service users, be proactive in establishing positive and professional communication with the public.
Leadership & Management
 Analyse various sources of information to assess risks and make judgement on the potential impact.
 Organise and plan own workload activity to meet the needs of the patients and demands of the service.
 Provide leadership that promotes patient focused care

 Provide a specialist resource in the safe handling of cytotoxic products for the Trust, in association with the Associate Director of Nursing for Cancer and the nurse lead for SACT services.
 Work collaboratively with the Specialist Multi-disciplinary team at the Tertiary Centre
 Contribute to the effective planning and use of resources.
 Monitoring of agreed standards of care and action planning to assess the effectiveness.
 Participate in the development of annual reports and/or service reviews.
 Contribute to the Trust Cancer Quality Surveillance process.
 To evaluate existing service, identifying areas for improvement and encourage team working, innovation and development in practice.
 Attend departmental and network meetings deputise for the Trust lead SACT nurse as required.
Education & Training
 Lead on the development and delivery of SACT education and training for staff and patients.
 Attend national and regional meetings and conferences appropriate to the role and service to ensure knowledge and skills are refreshed and kept up to date.
 Assist in the provision of a supportive learning environment for students and other learners.
 Provide and develop specialist teaching which will include practical and theoretical sessions to support multi-professional staff in relation to SACT.
 You will be supported by your line manager to identify personal objectives in conjunction with their line manager and access further education as required to improve specialist knowledge and skills.
 Establish and maintain evidence-based practice in the clinical environment ensuring processes are in place for the identification, collection, and evaluation of information to support clinical decision making.
 Supervise other professionals and students from other disciplines.
 Have a highly developed specialist knowledge of SACT, underpinned by experience and training.
Research & Audit
 To assist and participate in research, development, and audit within speciality and clinical competence.
 Demonstrate the ability to use current research to develop practice, ensuring this is from a reliable source and evidenced based.
 Provide support to staff willing to undertake research and education projects
 Collate and record quantitative and qualitative data on the specialist nursing service to provide evidence of productivity, outcomes and quality and produce reports as required e.g. annual report
Professional
 Organise and plan own day to day workload in collaboration with the Lead SACT Nurse in order to meet service demands and priorities.
 Consider opportunities to develop nurse-led initiatives linked to improving patient outcomes.
 Assist in the planning and implementation of service developments required by relevant national, regional and local SACT guidance and publications.
 Maintain accurate and timely patient records and documentation in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct and Trust policy.
 Actively contribute and participate in the Trust’s clinical governance agenda.
 Lead by example and act as a positive role model for all staff.
 Complete mandatory training in line with Trust policy.

 Maintain personal standards of conduct and behaviour, which are consistent with Trust and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards and requirements
 Provide expert nursing advice and support to other Health Care Professionals (HCP)
 Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies both within and out of the hospital setting to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
 Develop links with clinical networks and other specialist services to facilitate the sharing of good practice as required
 Proactively manage patient, relative and staff concerns.
 Seek support and advice on matters outside experience and authority

•     If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
