Are you ready to lead in a fast-paced environment? Join our team as a Unit Manager in our brand new, state-of- the- art Emergency Department.

In this dynamic role, you will balance clinical expertise with expectational leadership, overseeing the daily operations of the unit while actively contributing to patient care. Drawing on your experience leading teams and working in an Emergency Department you'll manage resources, support staff, and drive improvements to deliver outstanding patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Staffing management:  Ensure day-to-day staffing levels within n the department are safe and meeting patients needs, making adjustments when required 
  • Leadership:  Provide clear and effective leadership to the team, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment 
  • Accreditation:  Actively participate in the Trust's accreditation program, ensuring the department meets required standards and supports continuous improvement initiatives
  • Capacity and Safety: Work closely with the team to manage patient slow, capacity, and overall safety within the department.
  • Rota Management: Oversee and coordinate staff rotas to ensure appropriate coverage and completed inline with trust KPIs
  • Governance: Contribute to governance management, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and quality standards. Handle and respond to patient and family informal complains, identifying areas for improvement
  • Audits: Conduct and oversee ward to maintain high standards of care, cleanliness, and efficiency within the department 
  • Sickness management: Manage sickness in line with Trust policy, ensuring staff are supported and return to work processes are conducted appropriately

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

               

·       In conjunction with the Divisional Nurse Director and Matron (NS) provide effective leadership, monitoring of professional and care standards, and effective use of resources at ward/department level.

·        To be a visible and accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives, and staff.

·      To be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality patient care.

·                Lead by example and act as a positive role model to staff taking responsibility for own professional development.

·                Provide leadership that promotes patient focused care.

·        Actively contribute to and support agreed developments within the business group with focus for supporting clinical effectiveness and innovative practice.

·        To manage roster allocation for present and future shifts to provide safe staffing levels in line with the agreed workforce model.

·        To lead the multidisciplinary team daily using resources effectively and efficiently.

·        To confidently escalate in a timely manner concerns about patient safety, quality and experience, offering solutions and evidence-based recommendations.

·        Participate in the Divisional professional on site cover rota as required dealing with professional issues, redeployment of staff and giving advice and support, and liaising with the Senior Professional Cover (1090).

·        To contribute to a culture that recognises and works in partnership with patients and their families, involving them in all decisions.

·        To ensure that national and local policy and guidance are delivered and maintained.

·        Foster a culture which encourages staff to challenge and report substandard practice.

·        Contribute to the development of and support delivery of the Trust Quality Improvement Plan/Strategy.

·        Organise and plan own day to day workload or activities to meet the demands of the job role.

·        Contribute to the Ward accreditation programme as required.

·      Contribute to and participate in programmes of audit, including utilization of results in practice.

 If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £45.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

  • Substantial experience at Junior/Sister/Charge Nurse working within an Emergency Department
  • Managerial experience
