Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Band 8a

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic Advanced Clinical Practitioner to become part of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner Team working within the Surgical Neurosciences directorate of Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN) based on the Neurosurgical Wards.

Ideally educated to Masters level, you will be expected to practice autonomously at an advanced level in the delivery of high quality, safe and supportive care to Neurosurgical patients. You will provide clinical assessment and support for a diverse and undetermined caseload of patients requiring neurosurgical management, whilst developing an advanced knowledge  of surgical neurosciences.

We would also welcome applications from individuals who are due to complete their Advanced Clinical Practitioner training within the next 6 months. In this case, the role would commence as band 7 and progress to band 8a once training has been completed.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have a role in the clinical assessment of patients, working autonomously to assess the clinical situation, assessing symptoms determining a working diagnosis and appropriate management plan.

The successful applicant will be well supported by an existing team of ACPs and will be allocated a clinical supervisor. They will also work alongside medical colleagues and the wider multi-disciplinary team. Evidence based care will be integral to their clinical practice, ensuring that best practice is disseminated.

MCCN is one of the busiest neuroscience units in the UK with outstanding clinical care given to patients across a range of conditions. It includes the specialities of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Stroke, Spinal surgery and Neuropsychology.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as a Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC Pin within the next 2-3 months. Please note an NMC PRN Pin is not a full NMC Pin and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. To learn more about how you can gain a full NMC PIN to be eligible to apply for our vacancies in the future, please see the NMC website:  https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/register-nurse-midwife/trained-outside-uk/how-to-guide/
