You will be registered with the NMC and have experience of working in an acute   hospital environment. As a nursing associate in the day surgery unit you will be need to be flexible and able to adapt to meet the needs of the department day to day. This includes assisting with basic nursing care through to caring for your own caseload of patients.

You will be able to:-

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
  • Deliver high standards of personalised, patient centred care
  • Demonstrate a high level of compassion for patients and their relatives

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Qualified Nursing Associates to work within planned care on the day surgery unit. 

The post holders will support  clinical practice within the day surgery department:

  • Keeping the people who using our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments.
  • Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process
  • Supporting  learning in both formal and informal settings in order to support the on-going development of staff in clinical practice.

You will be supported in this role and will have opportunities for continuing professional development in a busy and rapidly developing service.

Essential criteria
  • Foundation Degree in Science based subject

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
  • Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
  • Maintain high standards of quality in corporate and clinical record keeping ensuring information is always recorded accurately, appropriately and kept up to date
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in day surgery

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities
  • Good communication (written and verbal skills)
  • Good organisational skills
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to support, supervise, assess and act as a role model to nursing associate students, other learners and health care support 6 workers as required within the clinical setting
  • Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of workload and individual patient contact
