Job overview

The successful applicant is also expected to act in a supervisory capacity, providing both training, support, and advice to clinical staff. The post holder will be responsible for contributing to workforce development, which is inclusive of both health and prison staff, and is intended to support the understanding and skill base of staff working with service users.

The post holder will ensure that the work for the range of services is well planned with full involvement of the prison, and that all team members have a good understanding of the delivery of the service and their role within this.

This exciting opportunity will allow the successful applicant to work similarly to a community LD nurse with the added interest of supporting forensic risks. The applicant will be able to work autonomously within a wider secondary care team. This allows successful clinician an opportunity to develop their role within the local establishment and operate under their own clinical flare. This will be supported through Clinical and Line management supervision.

The service spans Monday- Sunday with the flexibility to discuss shifts at interview. There is an excellent allocated amount of annual leave and bank holidays; with the bonus of being able to purchase additional annual leave.

  • Assess, develop and implement care packages for service users within the framework of the CPA in conjunction with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Works within codes of practice and professional guidelines and is accountable for own professional practice.
  • To manage a defined caseload of complex and challenging service users in custodial settings.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based interventions in the management of service users with identified/ suspected learning disabilities.
  • Ensure clinical effectiveness in working with patients, families and carers, including people who disengage from services, by facilitating engagement and therapeutic co-operation through the use of flexible and responsive engagement strategies which by the very nature of the client group can be complex and demanding.
