Job overview

Work with clients who have suspected psychosis or who are presenting with a psychotic illness, undertake, formulation, assessments including risk and specialist assessments such as SCI-Panns and CAARMS. Plan Monitor and Review Care Packages

The posts are within teams across the Pennine Care footprint to the east of Manchester. There are five Early Intervention Teams all achieving ‘top performing’ at the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP). The organisation has secured additional investment to expand the psychological therapies service to people 14-35, with an at-risk mental state (ARMS).

 

Main duties of the job

To participate in the provision of a high quality care. This will involve assessing, supporting, monitoring of the service users who are experiencing 1st episode psychosis and those who are suspected of developing psychosis. It will involve you’re working in a variety of community settings; it will include your liaising and co working with other services both statutory and non-statutory. It will involve you’re working with carers and families of service users and will involve seeing service users families and carers in their own homes, clinics or in other environments such as hostels, supported living, prisons, residential and nursing homes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN / Diploma / Degree), Occupational Therapist or Social Work registration
  • Qualification to post graduate level or equivalent worked experience relevant to the role.
Desirable criteria
  • Approved Mental Health Practitioner.
  • Mentorship / Practice Leadership qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of giving clinical supervision
  • Experience of working effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience working with clients with serious mental illness and their families/carers.
  • Experience of care coordinating complex packages of care.
  • Experience of conducting high quality risk assessments and implementing risk management plans
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in early intervention for psychosis, e.g. specialist placement, previous employment in the early intervention service, participation in a research trial or personal experience
  • Experience in the use of psychosis-specific semistructured interviews (e.g. PANSS; CAARMS; PSYRATS)
  • Experience of managing Community Treatment Order’s

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the ethos and philosophy of early interventions to support their clinical practice.
  • A high level of knowledge and around Early Intervention for Psychosis.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of research in psychosocial interventions and clinical implication
  • A high level of knowledge about the evidence base and guidance for interventions for those with psychosis and an At-Risk Mental State.
  • Knowledge of NICE guidelines for psychosis and schizophrenia.

  • Able to organise, plan and implement own work and oversee that of others
  • Able to work to set workload deadlines and to coordinate staff to achieve same.
  • To be self-motivated and to manage time effectively.
  • An ability to interact appropriately and professionally with colleagues

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of delivering service presentations and liaison to outside agencies to encourage referrals.
