Job overview
The lead midwife will be responsible for leading the implementation and embedding of Element 5 of the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle at Stockport Foundation trust . The aim of the role is to enhance the quality of patient care, showing leadership in the management of risk within the departments and achieve consistency in practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus. |
The post holder will ensure that local, regional and national preterm birth prevention standards are implemented effectively.
They will lead on the midwifery care for women/birthing persons with risk factors for preterm labour and birth alongside the lead consultant for preterm birth within the Preterm Birth clinic. This will be evidence based and holistic, meeting the individual needs of the women/birthing person, case holding those identified as High risk for PTB and supporting other clinicians with those identified as Intermediate risk for PTB.
They will be responsible for Generating, submitting and presenting reports to demonstrate progress towards full implementation and effectiveness of Quality Improvement initiatives including the Mat Neo SIP.
Main duties of the job
- Lead Saving Babies Lives (SBL) element 5 education and improvements in practice to support high quality, safe care provided by a highly competent workforce and work in collaboration with each of the element leads for SBL
- Generate, submit and present reports of cases and be actively involved in audits of their service
- Lead in projects for improving quality in relation to Saving babies lives care bundle v3 element 5..
- Lead on implementation and monitoring of Saving Babies’ Lives Version 3 care bundle in relation to Preterm birth and subsequent versions
· Counsel, support and offer advice to women/birthing person and their partners regarding preterm birth, and provide specialist midwifery care alongside the lead Consultant for preterm birth and other multidisciplinary team members
- Act as a resource for colleagues so that expert knowledge in Saving babies lives care bundle element 5 is always available
- Support the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST) Maternity Incentive Scheme and ensure submission of evidence to demonstrate compliance with aspects related to their role
- Attend local, regional and national Preterm Birth meetings in which Element 5 service issues are discussed.

They will lead the Preterm Optimisation Group (POG) meetings to monitor the performance of the preterm birth service through audit and case reviews, developing action plans to ensure the delivery of a high standard of care.

If successful this vacancy will require a Enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife on NMC Register
- Post-registration qualification or evidence of further study to Degree level
- Evidence of continuing personal and professional development
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of risk management and clinical governance and the relevance to practice
- In depth knowledge of the Saving babies lives care bundle
- Awareness of National and local health policy relating to maternity and wider safety ambitions
- Awareness of national safety standards and reporting e.g. CNST, SBL
- Knowledge of the BAPM Framework (E)
Experience

- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment.
