An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse Associate or Qualified Assistant Practitioner for Physical Health. 

We are seeking a compassionate, person centred individual, with a genuine interest in working with women and birthing people, and their families in the perinatal period and support in their physical health monitoring. 

We offer excellent training opportunities to our staff and provide robust supervision to support delivery of high-quality care.

The Perinatal Service is commissioned to support women and birthing people throughout Greater Manchester, who experience moderate to severe mental health problems during and after pregnancy, and for their infant up to the age of one year. The Perinatal Service provide assessment, care and treatment including the prevention, detection and management of maternal mental health problems that complicate pregnancy and the postpartum year.

The Registered Nurse Associate/ Qualified Assistant Practitioner for Physical Health will deliver high level, quality care and evidence-based interventions within a multi-disciplinary team.  The Assistant Practitioner will provide planned care and be able to take appropriate action to achieve the planned aims and objectives.

The Registered Nurse Associate/ Qualified Assistant Practitioner for Physical Health will deliver high level, quality care and evidence-based interventions within a multi-disciplinary team.  The Assistant Practitioner will provide planned care and be able to take appropriate action to achieve the planned aims and objectives. 

 

The Registered Nurse Associate/ Qualified Assistant Practitioner for Physical Health will be competent in:

 

  • Health Promotion

Discussion and signposting with service users around lifestyle, smoking, diet, exercise, diabetes, cholesterol, alcohol etc. Offer brief interventions and make referrals to relevant services such as weight management or exercise.

 

  • Physical Health Monitoring Tool

Ensure targets for metabolic screening completed yearly for service users who meet the criteria. Ensure Physical Health assessments completed, and results inputted and shared with service user, GP, care coordinator/medic. Ensure all interventions recorded through the progress note tile on PARIS. Refer to specialist nurses e.g. drugs and alcohol as appropriate and liaise with community staff. The successful candidate will be involved in developing a physical health pathway within the service, led by the ACP and Operational team.

 

  • Undertake Venepuncture as required or directed by the senior nurse or medic.

 

  • Undertake ECG as required or directed by the senior nurse or medic.

 

  • Medical devices

Undertake quality checks where required. Ensure medical device faults are reported and followed up. Report all problems to Senior Nurse Practitioner

 

  • Supporting annual flu vaccination clinics

Support qualified staff with flu vaccinations clinic. Give influenza vaccine under supervision of Senior Nurse Practitioner.

Education and Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse Associate compliant with the requirements for NMC registration
  • Level 5 study, Foundation Degree Nursing Associate or willingness to work towards.
  • OR: Competency based level 4 qualification (Foundation Degree) in Health and Social Care. End Point Assessment achieved as passed
  • Training in: • Venepuncture • BLS • ECG taking • Awareness of blood results relevant to role. • willingness to undertake training in all of the above is essential

  • Evidence of post registration development.
  • Experience of Perinatal services or working with perinatal clients.

  • The post holder should: Assessing physical health needs Awareness of mental health and physical health and how it interacts. Have the ability to work on their own initiative under appropriate supervision and engage in reflective practice Have experience of delivering person centred care under the supervision of a RN Have experience of working in collaboration with members of a multidisciplinary team in delivering care

  • Have previously completed a placement or have been employed in a community mental health setting.

  • Evidence based interventions and their application on practice The scope of the role of RNA/AP in the context of the team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development. When to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional The need for continued professional development in accordance with the requirements of NMC registration if an RNA.

  • Knowledge of specialist needs of service user group e.g substance misuse/self-harm. • Knowledge of PHIT • Knowledge around smoking cessation. • Awareness of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act as relevant to role.
