**CAMHS Inpatients Ward Manager**

An exciting opportunity  has become available for the position of Ward Manager on The Hope Unit - inpatient CAMHS.

The post is for a 12 month fixed term contract.

CAMHS experience is desirable but not essential as transferrable skills would be beneficial to the role.

Hope ward is a 12 bedded CAMHS General Adolescent Unit located at Pennine House on the Fairfield General Hospital Site.

The successful post holder will have excellent leadership and management skills and be committed to providing an inclusive environment where staff and patients are encouraged to thrive and reach their maximum potential. 

They would provide leadership and support to the inpatient nursing team, and to have responsibility for the management and co-ordination of the ward. 


They would deliver a high standard of care to inpatient services users. 


They would ensure the optimum level of safe and effective care within the allocated  resources. 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Management of the clinical team: ensuring that the team are working effectively both as individuals and as a team. This includes: recruitment, retention, development, and support and performance management of their staff.
  • Management of the Service User Experience: acting as the clinical lead for the unit, leading the multidisciplinary team, ensuring that their team are responsive to service user needs and that the clinical documentation is robust.
  • Management of local Governance Processes: auditing and evaluating the services as required by the Trust and Directorate policies. To monitor standards, ensuring quality and consistency and to take action when required, reporting to the Clinical Services Manager.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The provision of effective clinical leadership to and management of ward staff.
  • To maintain personal contact with patients, their relatives and carers. Being sensitive to their needs for respect, privacy and dignity and to act as the senior point of contact on the ward.
  • To lead on the formulation of staff rotas to ensure the most effective use of manpower and resources in relation to service user need and ward activity.
  • To lead on the monitoring of all staff sickness, in accordance with Trust policies.
  • To ensure that all staff follow the guidelines identified in the Trust and National policies.
  • To participate in the investigation of patient complaints, as per Trust Complaints procedure, aiming to settle complaints with local resolutions at ward level. When unable to do so, to communicate without delay to the Service Manager.
  • The post holder will be responsible for maintaining their own personal development and will take a lead on achieving the training and educational objectives of junior staff, including learners, in an environment which is conducive to learning.
  • To take responsibility for own clinical and managerial development in support of the Service Manager.
  • To participate in the annual individual performance review of all ward staff and to assist in the formulation of personal development plans which reflect the individuals potential in meeting the ward aims.
  • To ensure that all staff receive education and training in accordance to the requirements and scope of their Professional Practice.
  • To ensure that all newly qualified staff receive ongoing support, through preceptorship, for at least six months.
  • To ensure that all learner nurses have access to their identified assessor.
  • To act as a mentor for learner nurse.

Recruitment and Selection Responsibilities

  • The post holder will coordinate and participate in the recruitment and selection of staff as required.
  • To participate in employment interviews for staff vacancies.
  • To ensure that all newly appointed staff are introduced to the ward environment and receive a period of orientation and support to meet their individual needs.

General Duties of all post holders

  • To undertake any other reasonable duty, which is appropriate to the band, when requested by Senior Staff.
  • To be familiar with and comply with all Trust and departmental policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
  • To be aware of and work towards the Trusts strategic goals.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current registration or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Evidence of post graduate training and / or continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership Course
  • Mentorship Course
  • Clinical Supervision Training.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience at Band 6
  • Supervising and professionally developing junior staff.
  • Working within a Governance framework.
  • Clinical Leadership.
  • Working with high-level policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Problem solving and complex decision making.
  • Working with HR issues and serious incident reviews
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching Experience.
  • Experience of implementing effective change management.
  • Experience of working directly with NHS England, contract reporting and engaging and delivering on KPI targets.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • To be a resource for knowledge in this specialist area of mental health nursing for staff, service users and their families.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Mental Health Act.
  • Experience of leading of discharge pathways
  • Knowledge and experience of working with external agencies including MAPPA, SOMU. Experience of working with service users who have complex needs and significant index offences.
Desirable criteria
  • Implementation of local Clinical Governance objectives and evidence of improvements in practice due to audit findings.

Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to lead a staff team through effective change, engaging and involving he nursing and wider multidisciplinary team
  • Ensuring effective line management is achieved and your staff follow management processes
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • The application of the NMC code of conduct
  • The ability to engage staff in individual and group supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of an effective change management programme with your leadership skills.
