An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to appoint 3 Senior Advanced Practitioners  based in the Emergency Department at Fairfield Hospital and supporting across Urgent Care.

Are you a very experienced ACP with a minimum of 5 years working as a qualified ACP in the Emergency Department. You will be expected to work with minimal supervision and to support junior clinicians in the department across the range of clinical areas including Resuscitation, majors, minors and the Paediatric ED. This is a clinical role with an 80/20 split for clinical/non clinical activity and an expectation to work across the 24 hour period. The Emergency Department is part of the Emergency & Urgent Care Directorate and works closely with other departments in the hospital to provide the appropriate level of high quality care for our patients. The Senior Advanced Practitioner role enables us to provide consistent and advanced clinical services within all areas to help steer patient journeys through the appropriate pathway in a timely fashion to reduce length of stay and improve patient experience. This role will form part of a multidisciplinary team approach to providing Emergency Care at Fairfield, complimenting the medical and nursing teams.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Advanced Practitioner will work clinical shifts in the Emergency Dept and  will support the Nurse Consultant and the Senior Acp Development Lead with the day to day management of the Advanced Clinical Practitioners and support the development with the delivery of Emergency care within the dept. This will be in conjunction with the Nurse Consultant and Lead Nurse and represent the ACP workforce and strategy across the Division to the Senior Leaders within the Care Organisation

The successful candidates will be clinical with a job plan 80/20 split between clinical & CPD  activities

You will be enthusiastic, motivated and committed to wanting to help drive the strategy of a blended workforce with advanced skills within this challenging but exciting environment.

As a professional with extensive knowledge and RCEM accreditation or working towards RCEM accreditation you will also be expected to support junior colleagues and work as a strong team player to ensure the patient gets the best care possible. It goes without saying that you will be fully dedicated to patient-centred care and you will be willing to work closely with colleagues at all levels to ensure this continues across your department.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

Qualifications and Registration

Essential criteria
  • Current Registration with NMC/HCPC
  • MSC qualification in Advanced Practice
  • Non medical prescriber

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria
  • Substantial years post registration in advanced practice
  • Evidence of driving leading edge clinical practice supported by advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and skills
  • Portfolio of evidence demonstrating the 4 pillars of advanced practice - clinical leadership, education, research /audit/service development achievements
  • Effective communicator - able to communicate complex and sensitive information
  • Evidence of effective people management and leadership skills
  • RCEM accreditation or equivalent experience
  • Advanced life support provider
  • Advanced paediatric life support provider
  • Excellent verbal , written and presentation skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and use judgement and initiative where appropriate
  • Ability to lead a team and oversee care and treatment of a cohort of patients within the service.
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision to junior members of the team
  • Teaching experience
  • Computer literate in both data entry and communicating via IT - emails and reports
Desirable criteria
  • Current TNCC/ATLE/ETC provider
  • ALS/APLS/TNCC/ETC instructor
  • Demonstration of publications, presentations at national and international events
