- This fast paced 21-bedded tertiary referral unit cares for both emergency and elective patients from a broad range of specialties including cardiac & thoracic surgery, cardiology, vascular surgery, and chest trauma.
- Seasonally we also provide advanced respiratory care to medical patients requiring isolation.
- This spacious, modern unit promotes evidence-based practice and prides itself on excellent inter professional collaboration.
- Ability to prioritise work and to co-ordinate the ward or department.
- Demonstrates an understanding of managing resources.
- Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care according to
individual needs. - Has good verbal and written communication abilities.

Band 6 Experienced Staff Nurse (Senior Staff Nurse) - Adult Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit
- We encourage and support all aspects of professional development on the unit, including research, audit, study and project work.
- Band 6’s are also encouraged to develop shift leadership skills and are supported on this pathway.
- All new staff will enjoy a period of supernumerary practice during which time they can establish themselves in their new role and complete their Trust/Unit core competencies.
Band 6 – Experienced Staff Nurse (Senior Staff Nurse) role
- To provide excellent nursing care demonstrating skills and competencies to care for a wide range of critically ill patients, to mentor student and novice nurses and support the nurse in charge.
- To act in a responsible manner that demonstrates respect and kindness to others, in accordance with the trust values.
*Minimum requirement of 2 years ICU experience, a nationally recognized post registration ICU qualification and a minimum of 6 months post course consolidation. The candidates will require a willingness to further develop their clinical, management and leadership skills.

We are unique in that we operate in a large Critical Care Directorate and have three large adult Intensive Care Units on the same site; Neuro, Cardiothoracic and General. Although run as separate units, all work collaboratively across the Critical Care Directorate sharing expertise and innovations.
With nearly 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, they are the largest healthcare provider in southwest London.
Their main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George’s Hospital also hosts the St George’s, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the region.
As well as acute hospital services, they provide a wide variety of specialist care and a full range of community services to patients of all ages following integration with Community Services Wandsworth in 2010.
