Job overview

Theatres at Queens Hospital are seeking two Band 6 Qualified Nurses / ODPs on the HCPC register, to work within our Neuro / CEPOD theatres.  It is essential that the candidates have extensive scrub experience with good organisational skills to run the emergency theatres during the day and night shift.  The role requires a flexible approach to work as the candidate would be expected to scrub in different specialties as well as within the recovery unit. 
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two highly motivated and driven Band 6 Nurses / ODPs with extensive scrub experience. You must have the experience and skills to lead and support the multidisciplinary team within theatre promoting high quality patient care.
The department consists of 16 Operating theatres specialising in Neuro, Pain, Gynae, Maxillofacial, Trauma, ENT, Vascular and General Surgery.  You will become a valuable member of a supportive theatre team.

Main duties of the job

To provide integrated clinical leadership to a team of nurses within the department in order to care for patients in the Operating Theatre environment to the highest possible standard and to develop practice with support from the Team Leader.

To assume responsibility for the operational management of staff and resources in the absence of the Team Leader, taking a lead in a specific aspect of operational management in the Theatre setting.

To act as a role model and create an environment that promotes excellence in Theatre nursing practice and empowers staff to develop high levels of clinical skills and autonomy.

 

Working for our organisation

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care. 

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with 2 years theatre experience
  • Mentorship / SSSA qualification
  • Post graduate in peri-operative practice / theatre course, with scrub experience in more than 1 speciality

  • Degree in Professional Practice or working towards
  • Management or leadership qualification/certificate
