Job overview

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) Endoscopy Units are expanding our service and are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, innovative individuals with a keen interest in developing their career in Endoscopy. Due to an increase in demand for Endoscopy services, we are investing to grow our team to increase our ability to meet demands. This is an exciting time to be part of an innovative and forward-thinking service.

You will join a highly specialised team of professionals who deliver a high standard of patient centred care. We have a supportive culture for all staff and by joining us now, you can play a role in shaping our organisation that continues to put patient care first. Endoscopy is an ongoing developing speciality and so ongoing training and education is offered to all staff.

We are looking for individuals who value Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive and Empowerment who will bring a continuous focus to high performance and quality of care, working collaboratively with colleagues and the wider team. BHRUT is one of the largest acute trusts in the UK serving a population of 750,000 from a wide range of social and ethnic groups.

The trust provides specialist trauma, oncology, neurosciences, hyper acute, stroke and critical care services. The Trust is recognised as a regional London Upper GI Cancer resection centre by NHS England and has also become a standalone screening centre for Bowel Cancer.
We are extremely proud that we recently secured a place on the ground breaking scheme to transform the care we provide for patients- the Virginia Mason Institute Development Programme. We are only one of five trusts in the UK to take part. Our team provides a full range of services including IBD, nutrition, ERCP, EUS, stenting, bowel cancer screening, capsule endoscopy, laser, GI physiology and viral hepatitis treatment. We are supported by excellent specialist nurses in IBD, nutrition, hepatology, capsule endoscopy and upper and lower GI cancer.

We have close working relationships with our upper and lower GI surgeons, oncologists and interventional radiologists.
The successful applicants will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to use their initiative. Previous endoscopy experience would be excellent but this is not essential as training will be given to the successful applicant.
We fully support flexible working patterns and can accommodate weekend sessions as well. Part time requests are also welcome.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for individualized care of patients through the endoscopy process: admission, procedure, recovery, and discharge

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care

To assist with education and supervision of students

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
