Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our recovery team. We are seeking a qualified professional who can demonstrate excellent and efficient post-operative patient care. You are required to have excellent communication skills and communicate effectively with the MDT, matrons, and clinical coordinators, be a team person, be empathetic and be able to remain calm and steady under pressure. This role also requires a reassuring manner and the understanding of the rights, privacy & dignity and safeguarding of all patients.

You will have the motivation, vision and leadership qualities necessary to keep the Recovery Room a safe, productive and efficient area. As a key member of the team, you will have the ability to support, teach and develop junior staff and facilitate the delivery of high standards for a safe Post-Operative patient care. You will participate in the cleaning & re stocking, and preparation of the Recovery Room before & after receiving patient.

Main duties of the job

Delivering high quality, evidence-based and patient focused clinical care through:
 • Delivering a high standard of evidence-based care to patients. 
• Ensuring good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times. 
• Adhering to NMC Code of Professional conduct at all times. 
• Involving and supporting patients, relatives, carers and friends in the care process. 
• Promoting well-being and involving patients and relatives in health education. 
• Ensuring clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times. 
• Ensuring contemporaneous record keeping at all times. 
• Seeking advice from more senior/experienced members of staff where appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Practice:

  • To deliver a high standard of evidence-based care to a specified group of patients within Recovery.
  • To always adhere to NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and standards for registration.
  •  To always maintain confidentiality.
  • To support patients, relatives, carers and friends and where appropriate involve them in the care of the patient.
  • To be fully involved in the health education of patients and relatives, identifying each opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the relevant information regarding the patient’s needs/condition are communicated to them (including handover), and that any instructions from them regarding the patient’s care/condition are acted upon.
  • To adhere to the Trust policy on valuing equality and diversity in the workplace, which incorporates the patients/visitors’ and staff.
  • To acknowledge personal limitations in patient care and seek advice from senior staff members.
  •  To rotate to other clinical areas within the department as required or as identified as a personal development need in the appraisal process.
  • To be involved with department audits /essence of care/ observations of care.
  • To report adverse incidents which occur in the department as per policy and assist in the investigation of such incidences as necessary.
  • To maintain up to date and comprehensive records of care in accordance with NMC/HCPC, legal and Trust requirements.
  •  To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model for nurses and other staff.
  • To demonstrate a reassuring manner and the understanding of the rights, privacy & dignity and safeguarding of all patients.

  • Registered Nurse (RN1) with active NMC registration at time of starting appointment
