Job overview

The purpose of the Safeguarding Children’s Advisor role is to ensure staff deliver safe and effective care that complies with the: Children Act 1989, the Children Act 2004, the Children and Families Act 2014 and Working together to safeguard children (2023) and the London Safeguarding Children Procedures and Practice Guidance.

In addition, the post holder will align their work to the Think Family guidance.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for:

Providing specialist support to CLCH staff working with vulnerable children and young people. 

Providing supervision, support, and advise health visiting, school nursing and therapy teams, by the 
provision of specialist knowledge and advice in relation to the safeguarding of children. This will include 
cases of actual or suspected child abuse.

Supporting the Named Nurse with the ongoing development of clinical practice, research, and standards 
of care within safeguarding, including the development of policies, protocols and guidelines and contribute 
to service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.

Undertaking clinical audits, monitor, and collect statistical data in relation to families of high concern and 
those subject to child protection plans.

Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes of safeguarding children training.

To manage their work within resources agreed with their manager.

To establish and maintain good working relationships with health and social care colleagues and 
other agencies in the borough.

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • NMC registration
  • Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse
  • First Level degree or equivalent
  • Evidence of professional development
Desirable criteria
  • A commitment to undertake further study
  • Formal qualification in teaching

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of safeguarding services and systems.
  • Experience of attending safeguarding meetings /case conferences
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Experience of having regular safeguarding supervision
  • Experience of designing and undertaking audits
  • Experience working with and managing complex safeguarding cases
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of safeguarding policies
  • Awareness of safeguarding audits
  • Experience of undertaking the Safeguarding Champion Programme
  • Experience of working in a community healthcare setting
  • Experience of presenting at meetings /training
  • Experience of analysing and presenting data
