Job overview

A unique opportunity for a NMP Clinical Nurse Specialist, Band 7, 0.6wte to join the Westminster CAMHS team, working specifically in the Neurodevelopmental Subteam.

Westminster CAMHS is a large, well established and dynamic team with opportunities for varied MDT work. There is a strong multi-disciplinary culture in the team and you will contribute to change management in the service. You will hold experience working in CAMHS services and have a sound understanding of mental health challenges facing children and young people. You will have significant knowledge and skills of working with moderate to severe mental health presentations and be ready to join a highly dynamic and experienced team of clinicians.

The Post Holder will provide a core element of the service for children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and play an active role in assessments, prescribing and monitoring of medication and multi-disciplinary discussions.

Main duties of the job

The Westminster Neuro-development (ADHD) service is an innovative service implementing evidence based practice and following NICE guidelines.  The post holder will be expected to deliver a high-quality innovative service for adolescents using research and good practice guidelines.  They will take a lead role in developing a seamless service between community services, in-patient services, and adult mental health services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role will include the following:

 

        ADHD monitoring clinics- to monitor progress and medication.

        Involvement in the ADHD assessment, the Information Sharing Groups for parents and children, the medication initiation groups and trial of medication review groups.

        Advice to parents on behavioural management including challenging behaviours at home and sleep problems.

        Support to parents and young people seeking help between clinic appointments or when in crisis.

        Close liaison with schools in relation to children and adolescents progress at school and response to medication.

        Close liaison with the ADHD Support Group and groups offering Parent Training.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Non-medical prescriber (V300)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development at band 6
  • Evidence of continuous professional development – mentoring qualification
  • RMN Trained, NMC Registered
Desirable criteria
  • Training in Behavioural Management and/or Parent Training
  • Training in Research

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working with individuals with ADHD.
  • Previous experience in CAMHS or Paediatrics or experience of work with adolescents or young adults.
  • Experience/training in the monitoring of medication side-effects.
  • Experience of providing assessment
  • Experience in the use of behavioural therapy or other treatment packages.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of working across agencies.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection Procedures.
