Senior Sister /Charge nurse for Governance

 Cardiology – 9-month secondment

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the cardiology service, If you have extensive leadership experience working in the cardiology field and have an interest in governance, then this is the post for you.

The secondment offers a great opportunity to contribute to the delivery of safer care.  The role will allow for the successful candidate to be involvement in quality improvement projects.

The role allows for an experience nurse to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to set up robust systems to maintain safe practice and safe patient experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a senior member of the CCU team to lead and deliver a range of quality governance activities at unit level and within professional teams’ groups, to ensure compliance with the site’s governance and risk framework. This includes effective complaint handling, gathering patient feedback, patient safety, incident handling and meeting the regulatory requirements of external standards and inspection such as those undertaken by the Care Quality Commission.

 As Governance Lead the post holder will have a key part to play in the implementation of the site’s Safe and Compassionate Quality Improvement plan and activities and in developing a proactive, open learning and improvement culture, in order to reflect Bart’s Health ambition to be a leader in safety and health care excellence

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 1st level degree or equivalent experience or study
  • Completion of a management qualification or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of leadership qualification
  • Good level of clinical governance knowledge

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills with MDT and patients and their carers
  • Ability to support the development of others
  • Evidence of critical thinking and initiative to solve problems and mange workload
  • Extensive cardiology (CCU) experience at a senior grade.
  • Complaints handling and investigation experience.
  • Experience of evaluating ‘evidence’ against prescribed standards for a range of assessments
  • Demonstrates skills in analysis and interpretation of risk, performance, clinical and other data and reports
  • mpetent Datix user and demonstrable evidence that they can teach others to use the system
  • The ability to work on personal initiative and as part of a team, working across professional boundaries at all levels of the service and site
Desirable criteria
  • solve problems and mange workload Ability to respond to challenges in a proactive and flexible way

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Able to maintain effective relationships and develop networks both internally and across the trust to ensure effective governance
  • Can handle sensitive situations and communicate appropriately with patients, complainants, and relatives when things have gone wrong, as a result of the PSIRP or complaints process
  • Able to present complex issues clearly and concisely at all levels of the service

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Post Registration Clinical course
  • Evidence of Degree level study or equivalent experience
  • ILS
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship course or relevant teaching course

Personal and people development

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of effectively managing staff and the professional development of self and team
  • Can develop and deliver training and facilitate Task and Finish Groups / work streams
