Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to join the Interventional Radiology team as a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, where you will lead a team of Registered Nurses in delivering clinically effective nursing care.
 
We are located on a single site in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey and run several outpatient clinics in neighbouring areas including Raynes Park Health Centre and Teddington Memorial Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Your role as the Lead Nurse (Interventional Radiology) is to  co-ordinate, manage and develop  an effective, high quality service in line with Trust targets.

You will ensure the effective running of procedure lists and pre-procedure preparation of all patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, maintain effective and good communication with the team, demonstrate good knowledge, experience and confidence in all interventional procedures, provide care whilst adhering to trust protocols and guidelines.
 
The post holder will be responsible for the pro-active case management of patients as part of the multi-disciplinary team within their clinical area of responsibility. In addition, the post holder will provide nursing leadership within this area, ensuring an effective quality nursing service, with responsibility for standards of nursing care and patient safety. The post holder will provide the ward with 24-hour Nursing and operational management ensuring a high-quality service with cost effective use of resources.

Qualifications/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • RGN
  • Recognised teaching and assessing certificate e.g. ENB 998
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Ability to organise/co-ordinate nursing care within Interventional radiology setting, scrubbing and circulating for procedures
  • Demonstrate a commitment to corporate objectives
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of equal opportunities issues
Desirable criteria
  • Phlebotomy, Cannulation and ECG skills
  • Diploma, BSc in Nursing/ relevant subject (or equivalent)

Experience/Skills

Essential criteria
  • Qualified for 5 years
  • Significant years of experience at Band 6 in an acute setting, e.g. radiology/theatres/cath lab
  • Knowledge of budgetary and HR management
  • Evidence of effective management skills; problem solving decision making interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent negotiating skills, and an ability to influence others in the promotion of high standards of patient care
Desirable criteria
  • Band 7 experience
  • IT skills
